Switching youtube tabs have become slow in the last couple of weeks.

Hi,
I am using FF 67.0.1 under Windows 10, 64-bit.
I watch many news clips (most of them are MSNBC news) on youtube.
I also look at some other video clips along side.
I keep the tabs open so that I can come back to the previously seen
videos quickly.
It worked rather fine until the beginning of May. I did not find
anything I could complain about.
However, for that last 10 days or so, I noticed the switching the tabs
of youtube videos take much, MUCH longer than it used to be.
(It could have been happening earlier. I have noticed the annoying
problem only lately.)
To see if I could improve the situation, I did the following.
1. - I cleaned up my firefox profile.
2. - I disabled the accessibility access in my option setting.
3. - I even updated the graphics driver (I am using Nvidia NVIDIA
GeForce GT 1030 and the driver which FF recognizes in about:support page is
26.21.14.3053 dated 4-29-2019.
Step (1) made things worse until I did step (2).
step (2) above helped in making the general responsiveness to improve.
However, then the youtube tab switching has become conspicuous.
Step (3) may have reduced the delay a bit. Frankly I am not sure.
Tab switching is either slow, or
when the tab is switched, the tab screen is rendered as if firefox has
to read the content again (!?) I thought the current state is cached
somewhere.
Also, sometimes, I observe the following problem. This has happened
again in the last few weeks. I observe only the audio continues to play
when I switch tabs (sometimes I let music video play this manner in the
background) That is when I switch back to a youtube page and begin
playing the video again, the audio starts to play, but the video image
rendering is not updated for a couple of seconds. The video screen
stands still.
It is really annoying.
I have to rewind the video to see if the video image was really still,
or if the MC in the news was really speaking or not.
I wonder if this is a driver issue or not.
If someone experiences similar symptoms, maybe we can share the
environment information to home in the cause somehow.
TIA

Does the same problem occur if you update to 67.0.2 and use it?

I will wait for 67.0.2.
Tough thing is that I noticed additional strange behavior.
I noticed that on opening a new tab, nothing is shown for youtube URL.
Abosolutely nothing.
OK, sometimes a red bar that I believe is the separating bar between the
screen and the comments, etc. below.
Very strange. I tried reloading the URL and a black rectangle which is
supposed to be the screen area appears for a flash of a second, but it
disappears and basically white screen. No text even...
The above appears when maybe 10 youtube tabs (not playing
simultaneously, mind you) are created.
I will monitor how the new release this coming week will
will fare.
Not sure if this is related to my problem, but I suspect this could be.
TIA

I have suddenly the same as you describe with open hidden Tabs rerenderimg or reloading when Switching back to that tab.
How can I Switch that öff?
If offline the tab gets empty so it seems to be reloading that is Done and faills when offline.
I want it to Display the old Version not Update the Webpage.

Hi Klaus,
Now I see the slowdown may be due to the reloading of tab as you correctly
describe.
Does anyone know how to turn off this reloading???
But I just noticed that there does not seem to this reloading of a few
websites I am opening right now. So maybe youtube has changed its webpage
contents?
But as Klaus noticed, this did not happen for a lot of web pages a few weeks
ago, and I am wondering if there has been any policy change on tab-switching
on the side of firefox.
Any enlightenment on this topic will be appreciated.
TIA

This is NOT for firefox, but for Chrome: But this symptom and solution may
apply.
However, I don't know the exact setting for FF and for that matter, similar
settings may not
be available for FF.
But maybe we can increase the RAM for storing content to avoid reloading if
we have plenty of memory. (I do.)
I would welcome any insight/tips.

Could it be that the symptom may be caused by WebRenderer (for NVIDIA
graphics card)?
The PC where The symptom I observe uses NVIDIA graphics card (Windows 10).
The introduction of the new renderer called WebRenderer might be to blame.
Klaus, I am curious if you use NVIDIA card, too.

I did some more tests:
use FF to search on google. Open tabs for two search results. Switch to a tab.
Go back to the google search results. Whenever switching tabs, it is reloaded.
Do the same on google chrome: The contents are static. Switching back/forth does not trigger reload.
So it is FF causing that.
Grafics card: unlikely. I have a 10 inch hp notebook with atom processor. I doubt there is an extra grafics chip.
thanks, Klaus
