I guess I must be the only one having this problem since I found nothing by googling. Posting here in hope someone has an idea about what is going on.

For some reason, signing in to Google Groups does not work for me on Firefox (54.0, 64-bit, on Debian). It does work on Chrome.

Observed behavior:

0. Restart Firefox with add-ons disabled and open a new Private Browsing window to eliminate the effect of cookies.
1. Go to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!newtopic/mozilla.support.firefox
2. Observe a page with a "Sign in" button in the upper right corner
3. Click "Sign in"
4. Enter Google account credentials
5. Observe that the resulting page still has the Sign in button and says "mozilla.support.firefox: You must be signed in to post." (So, writing this on Chrome.)

Expected behavior:

5. Google Groups shows me as signed in and lets me post.

It does not solve the problem,
but the topic may be one more reason
not to post to Usenet groups nor Google groups via a browser.

I use on Windows and Linux
Thunderbird as the Usenet client for Usenet groups,
or as the email client for Google groups,
after subscribing to Google group maillist interface.

I've observed the same behavior with FF 54.0 32 bit, on Win 10 (64bit)
when I first attempt a sign-in to Google Groups. I've found that I can
reliably overcome the problem by clicking on the reload logo (clockwise
circular arrow) at the right side of the address window. When the page
reloads, everything works correctly.

I went to test the problem since I recently setup a Gmail account and
found I was already logged in.

Guess I forgot to log out of Gmail.
