on http://www.dishant.com, the song files are in rm format and they play
in their internal jukebox player.

I want these rm files to get played with Media Player Classic that I
have installed on my box and is my default for rm files.

how do I define it in firefox.

- The point to be noted is that if I type the link of a rm file in
firefox address bar, it duly opens externally in media player classic.
Only when a file is played by clicking at the links in their pages, it
is played in their jukebox.
------------

Also, how to make firefox show .ram files as normal text (like .txt or
.js files) in a new tab, instead of playing or downloading them.

thanks.

Goto Tools>Options>Downloads>Download Action>View
& Edit Actions.
Select . Select RAM files, click on 'change
Action' , select Proper application.

can media player classic play rm files?

my Tools>Options>Downloads>Download Action>View & Edit Actions is
totally empty. I had somehow deleted them all.

how do I add file-extention - action in that box?

real alternative (and quick alternative) are just a set of codecs. They
are not media playing software themselves. When you install
real alternative (or quick alternative), media player classic is built
in the zip file and you can install that so that these codecs will play
the relevant files.

I have installed a different set of codecs itself (K-lite or K-full),
and my Media player classic can play almost all the audio/ video formats
made on Earth.

You haven't deleted it also you can't insert any
new entry into it manually.

Just try this trick ( not sure ):
There should be some 'File Type' option. probably
under Tools>Options.
Select all file types.
See Vikas, I have never used this software so
don't know that actual settings.

Hmm.

Even today, I saw some three entries (TXT, JPG, and one more) appearing
in that window. But they are not appearing anymore.

Those values ought to be stored somewhere in profile or in registry.
Could someone please tell the location, and how to edit them?

Do you mean window explorer's folder options?

in window explorer, rm is linked to media player classic, and ram is
linked to metapad.exe. These are correct connections as I want these
files on disk to get opened by these software.

However, when I am within firefox, I want rm file to get streaming
played by media player classic, and ram file to get opened in firefox
tab itself. How do I do it?

thanks.

'media player classic' is NOT listed in about:plugins.

how to bring it there?

this is just a guess, as I don't have the program, but go to the mpc
program directory, thats where the program is installed, and search
for some file(s) of np*.dll. If you find some, then copy them to the
plugin directory of the FF program directory.

Probably there is no plugins of 'media player
classic' for Firefox to open .rm files in new tab
or play within firefox( not sure enough and you
should try what gwtc suggested ).
and to make ''media player classic'' to play .rm
files outside of firefox when you click on the
link : Goto Tools>Options>Downloads>Download

Action>View & Edit Actions.

Select RAM files, click on 'change Action' ,

select 'open them with this application' and
select .exe file of media player classic.

also according to this picture :

there is an option named 'web interface'. check
that option and see whether there is any option to
play rm files within firefox with media player classic

MPC should not appear in about:plugins. I have Real Alternative, and the
listings in about:plugins are:

*RealPlayer(tm) G2 LiveConnect-Enabled Plug-In (32-bit)*
File name: C:\Program Files\Real Alternative\browser\plugins\nppl3260.dll
RealPlayer(tm) LiveConnect-Enabled Plug-In
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin RealPlayer(tm) as Plug-in ra,ram,rm,rpm Yes

File name: C:\Program Files\Real Alternative\browser\plugins\nprpjplug.dll
6.0.12.1212

there is no np*.dll in media player classic folder "C:\Program
Files\K-Lite Codec Pack\Media Player Classic".

on searching, I found the following np*.dll in
C:\Program Files\K-Lite Codec Pack\Real\Browser\Plugins
nppl3260.dll
nprpjplug.dll

and, the following in C:\Program Files\K-Lite Codec Pack\QuickTime\Plugins
npqtplugin2.dll
npqtplugin3.dll
npqtplugin4.dll
npqtplugin5.dll
npqtplugin.dll

however these are already present in C:\Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox\plugins that also have
npImagine.dll
npnul32.dll
nprpjplug.dll
npswf32.dll.prefbar
npvlc.dll

I searched on net but could not find any relevant entry for media player
plugin for firefox, which was invariably showing qt plugin.

however, I found on http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/faqenglish.htm

I did that. (it was selected to something else).

the rtsp is not present in mpc formats window.

I restarted media player classic.

After that, even though www.dishant.com files are still playing in its
internal jukebox, if I give a ram file link in firefox that is duly
playing the file in MPC whereas it was downloading the two line text
file previously. Some relief.

I also found:

I checked and found that all contents of those folders were already
present in ff's components and plugins folders.

I remember that in the past I could play net radio contents of various
sites on media player classic without any settings change at all.

Is it possible that www.dishant.com or any site can hardcode that some
particular media can only be played in some particular player,
especially if they have some internal properietary player?

Thanks.

ram was not appearing there.

I created an html file in which I gave the link to an ram file that I
know exists on a website. Then I opened the page in ff and clicked on
this link. It asked me flashgot question open this file with ... . I
gave "media player classic". and now it is duly playing the links of ram
files in media player classic.

however the following page's files are still playing in their internal
player:

http://dishant.com/album/Abida_Parveen_-_Mere_Dil_Se.html

first file:
http://dishant.com/jukebox.php?songid=7902
linked to
http://dishant.com/jukeplay.php?filename=playselected36711.ram
resolves to
http://www.dishant.com/jukebox/playselected36711.ram
actual file
rtsp://real2.dishant.com/jukebox/1174/7902.rm

how to make the file play in media player classic instead of their
internal player?

thanks.

I have tested it on Mplayer ( and Real Player )
and found that both player can play it externally.

In response to Chris , you informed this:

MIME Type
Description Suffixes
Enabled
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin RealPlayer(tm) as
Plug-in ra,ram,rm,rpm Yes

it means 'ra,ram,rm,rpm' files are associated with
Real player.
Just goto Tools>Options>Content>File Type.
select 'ra,ram,rm,rpm' entry one by one and click
on 'change action' and select 'open them with this
application' radio button , click on browse and
select desired player.

that is what I want. it should play externally in media player classic
in my case.

Have manually added it by editing 'mimeTypes.rdf'
or Firefox prompted to you to select proper
application and you have selected media player
classic ?

Vikas Pandey

no. Editing mimetypes.rdf is not for a newbie like me. :-)

I have described in another thread that I created a temporary html page
in which I defined a ram file link I had taken from a webpage.

then I opened that file in ff and clicked on that ram file link. It
asked me flashgot options and I selected "open by mpc". It did, and also
added an entry for ram file in mimetypes.

and still Firefox can't play real audio in
external player in case of dishant.com?

ok! I think you mat try these two tricks:
1. Goto Tools>Options>Downloads>View & Edit Options.
select ra,ram,rm,rpm entries one by one and
manually set them again to Media Player Classic
( click on 'change action' and select 'open them

with this application' radio button , click on

browse and select .exe file of media Player classic )

2.Rename 'mimeTypes.rdf' to
'mimeTypes.rdf.backup'. Start Firefox . Try to
open any audio file in dishant.com. Firefox will
prompt you to select proper application. select
Media Player classic.
see if you find firefox doesn't prompt to select
proper application and automatically start it with
real player, just follow previous steps to force
it to open with Media player classic

I forced it just as above. now options are showing that ra, ram and rm
files are to be opened by mpc.

rpm file is opening in firefox itself and I don't know how to correct
it. in windows explorer, rpm file is attached to mpc.

however
http://dishant.com/jukebox.php?songid=7902
the above link still plays the ensuing ram/ rm file in dishant's
internal jukebox instead of playing it in mpc.

back to square one. however, gained some insights en route.

thanks.

No.

I had once deleted Mimetypes.rdf files last week when I was not seeing
any entries in that window.

FF had prompty created a new file having all the default settings. Hence
I don't think that would serve the purpose. No?

or, do you mean that it didn't create a fresh file for you?

thanks.

1st. I haven't suggested you to delete
'mimetypes.rdf' . i asked you to rename it for
backup purpose . You can create a copy of existing
file or simply move it to safe place.

2nd. As per my knowledge , if 'mimetypes.rdf' file
get deleted manually , it will be automatically
created again.

I suspect that probably 'mimetypes.rdf' somehow
get corrupted. but as i'm not sure enough that's
why i suggest you to keep previous copy as backup.
