Although I live in the UK I prefer to do my searches on Google.com
rather than Google.co.uk because the order of results is not governed by
the irrelevance of whether an originator has uk in the domain name or not.

But Google seems to provide only Google.co.uk by default.

Using the 'Manage search engines' option does not help as it only allows
the addition of a selection from the options provided (which appears to
trigger a Javascript instruction).

The situation is far better with IE7 (Alas) because their 'Manage search
engines' menu also has a 'Create your own' process which has allowed me
to make Google.com my default without any problems.

It's a pity to have firefox for browsing bookmarks if one has to revert
to IE7 to do a search!

Does anyone know how to get round this, or Please Firefox, can WE also
have a create your own form?

P.S. By the way Mozilla, did you know that the Thunderbird spell-check
has just suggested that instead of Firefox, I should use Firebox or fire
fox? And that instead of Mozilla. I should use Godzilla? Dear oh dear!

Many thanks, Nir. That does the job nicely.
Even so, the 'create your own' still seems a good idea for a future release.

You can create Firefox 2 search plugins at this site:

Thanks, Tony. I learn by the minute--BUT, even though it seems to be
essentially the same method, it does seem a little complicated for an
oldie like me, by comparison with the two line form on IE7. But I will
certainly try it next time I need to create a search plugin.

On 26.10.2006 17:30, CET - what odd quirk of fate caused Malcolm
Shifrin to generate the following:? :

open about:config
filter for search
change the entry:
browser.search.defaulturl so that the Value reads:
http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

I took that from my config, so it may be enough to simply put
http://www.google.com/
