I want to move the profile from

C:\\My Stuff\Firefox

to

C:\\My Stuff\Firefox\profiles\emf

Can I do this by copying all the files from the first folder to the
second, and by changing the first path to the second in the file

C:\\users\Eustace\roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini

?

I recommend you _copy_ (not move) your profile to a new location, then add a
new profile in the profile manager (see note below) that points to the new
location, then run that new profile and see if it works. If it does, then use
profile manager to delete the old profile.

Profile manager:

Instead of editing profiles.ini, I recommend creating a new profile then
copying the contents of the old profile folder over the contents of the
new one. Step-by-step details are at
<https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles>,
under "Restoring to a different location".

When I try this there is a problem. After specifying profile name emf, when I click to choose folder for the new profile, if I choose the folder profiles the profile folder indicated is

C:\\My Stuff\Firefox\profiles\profiles

If I choose the folder emf inside the profiles folder, the profile folder indicated is

C:\\My Stuff\Firefox\profiles\emf\emf

How can I choose the folder to be

C:\\My Stuff\Firefox\profiles\emf

Your original idea is the way I've always done a profile move/change. I
don't know /why/ I took that route - maybe the gui wasn't so hot but I
still do it that way today.

Edit the .ini.

Follow these steps:

I have a custom profile (so I know this works) located here:
'c:\shared\Thunderbird\profiles\jkqizu6r.default'.

Suppose I wanted to relocate it here:
'c:\foo\12345678.default'

== DO THIS ==
Create folder 'c:\foo'.
Copy folder 'c:\shared\Thunderbird\profiles\jkqizu6r.default' into folder 'c:\foo'.
Rename folder 'c:\foo\jkqizu6r.default' to 'c:\foo\12345678.default'.

Start > Run > "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -p (Opens
"Thunderbird - Choose User Profile" dialog).

- In "Thunderbird - Choose User Profile" dialog,
- Click [Create Profile] button (Opens "Create Profile Wizard").

- - In "Create Profile Wizard",
- - In "Enter new profile name" textbox, put a name that's not already used
(can be anything - I used 'foo').
- - Click [Choose Folder...] button (Opens "Browse For Folder" dialog).

- - - In "Browse For Folder" dialog,
- - - Browse to 'c:\foo\r6uziqkj.default'.
- - - Click [OK] button (returns to "Create Profile Wizard").

- - In "Create Profile Wizard",
- - Click [Finish] button (returns to "Thunderbird - Choose User Profile" dialog).

- In "Thunderbird - Choose User Profile" dialog,
- Highlight your new profile name ('foo').
- Use [Rename Profile...] button to rename it as desired.
- Use [Start Thunderbird] button to run the new profile.

I just did this myself and it worked.
Then I deleted the new profile and the files.
I'm back to normal.

Ciao - Mark.

This method always works for me. I even have copied profiles to Linux w/o
any problems.
