how to turn off hardware acceleration

I read I could do this by playing a Youtube video and right clicking and
then unclicking "enable hardware acceleration" in display or settings. But
every Youtube video seems to be HTML5 now and the right click menu doesn't
have an options dealing with "enable hardware acceleration".

How can I accomplish this? I'm trying to troubleshoot some videos that
won't play.

Options > Advanced > under "Browsing" third option down.

AIUI, that is to turn off the hardware acceleration feature of the Flash
plugin itself, not the Firefox hardware acceleration feature.
