Is there a way to prevent a second instance of Firefox from starting if one
already exists? I would prefer the existing instance come to the
foreground.

By default, if you try to start a new instance of Firefox, what you'll
actually get is a new window in the already running instance. I'm not sure if
it's possible to open a new _tab_ in the current window in the already running
instance; maybe some extension can do that.

It _is_ possible to have more than one instances of Firefox running in
parallel (using different profiles) but some fancy footwork is required, and I
guess you aren't interested.

Best regards,
Tony.

Thanks, but I think I'll forego the lump, if you don't mind.

add about:blank to your shortcut

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" about:blank

it opens a blank tab, but it opens in the browser that is already running
