Using FF 3.5.5 Yahoo mail classic view and AVG 8.5 on XP SP2
Recently FF/Yahoo mail is running like a pig.
Task Manager shows multilple processes with avg in the name.
I have also had FF drash at least once a day and often more.

Ideas on what is going on / fixes?
Avast or Avira? AVG 9?

TIA

look out for "AVG Safe Search", "AVG toolbar", "ask.com toolbar"
you can disable the extensions but to uninstall you may need to follow
special directions in the links at
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions

Thanks

I do read those sneaky "helpful" check boxes and did uncheck the last
two, but did allow safe search. Does safe search also add delays?

AVG safe searh is a big NONO.
I disabled the extension, then later
I uninstalled AVG after it started spamming.
Replaced it with Avast.
Up to now I am a satisfied Avast cutomer.

AVG does ask and, AFAICR, it always has asked (I've been using AVG for
quite a few years now). As for spamming........I have yet to see any
directly connected with AVG; are you prehaps refering to the receiving
updates/offers **OPTION** which can be enabled/disabled while
downloading the current version of AVG?

The spam was repeated popups advertizing for the paid versions.
And AVG did not ask me for permission to install the site watchdog
which made FF slow as molasses.

I've installed AVG Free version 9 in half a dozen machines in the last
week and it DOES ask, but you have to go the the "custom" install dialog
and deselect the things you don't want to have installed.

"David Pyles" ...

The practice is so prevalent that installing software to go with the camera
you just purchased puts you into doing a custom install and when you
do it,, and there are no tricks, you wonder what the default install
would have done. Actually one of the tutorialS was was in fact
a four page color ad for a printer.
