I have the latest version of Firefox for Windows with two adblockers,
adblock plus and adblock ultimate.

Although I am on a slow connection, when I use Firefox on certain
websites a video usually starts to play within the page (how do I stop
this ?). If I pause the video it will then popout further down the page
and try to play which I then close with the "x".

Looking through the options within Firefox there doesn't seem to be any
option to stop videos playing automatically, or to stop popout players.

Am I missing something ?

Why two adblockers? What is the difference between a popup and a popout?

If the videos that are starting automatically are HTML5, you can stop
that by setting media.autoplay.enabled to false. If the videos are from
a plugin, you can set that to Ask to Activate.

Thanks for your suggestion . I will do as you suggest. I class a popup
as something like an unwanted window appearing and a popout when a video
pops out further down a page. I have two adblockers because they work
fine together and do not as far as I know slow down my computer. I have
tried using just one of the adblockers but find it will miss blocking
certain parts of a page which it would have done if the two adblockers
were running together.

In addition, use FF's own pop-up blocking:

Tools - Options - Contents - Pop-ups - check "Block pop-up windows"

But if popouts are things that are embedded, then blocking popups will
not stop them.
