FF39.0.3 Win7/Ubuntu 15.04

I tried to download the latest Irfanview using FF under Ubuntu, but
nothing seemed to happen even though I used different download sites.
Eventually I checked the download list and found the following message
repeated for each download website:

iview440_setup.exe
Blocked: may contain a virus or spyware - tucows.com (or other website
tried)

I had no problem downloading using another browser (Qupzilla). I also
had no problem downloading using FF39.0.3 under Win7.

Back in Linux, I started FF in safe mode, and with all add-ons disabled,
I could download the file. When reenabled, download failed again. I have
only 6 add-ons, so disabled three and restarted FF. Downloading failed.
So I disabled the other three as well and restarted FF. Downloading
still failed, although I had apparently just returned to the "safe mode"
state where I could download.

Any ideas what could still be stopping the download?

"Safe Mode" also uses a pristine copy of prefs.js without any user invoked
modifications.

Thanks for the info. I guess the easiest next step is to replace the
Linux prefs.js with the Window 7 one, and see what happens.

After posting I remembered that any userpref.js is not loaded either.

I just got the update to FF 40.0. Checking the Release Notes led me to
https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2015/08/11/expanded-malware-protection-in-firefox/
which may well be the reason for the IrfanView block. I'll try
deactivating it and see if the download is allowed.
