Every now and then, when I fire up Firefox, I find myself at
the NoScript web page. I don't like being taken someplace
that I haven't planned to go to! What is allowing this to
happen?

Do you have installed NoScript extention ?

Some extensions, including NS, brings you
to What is the news info. In case of NS,
as far as it is security related, it makes perfect sense.

It can be switched off in NS Options
Notifications - Display the release notes on updates.

Or configure Firefox to NOT automatically update its add-ons. When you
do a manual update check, YOU choose when to allow a state change to
your computer and getting a notice page won't be a surprise. You choose
when to check for updates, you see which add-ons have a new version, and
you choose to click on an update button so you'll know why that notice
page showed up.

Thanks--I had missed that NoScript setting.
