Using Firefox 31.3.0 on Linux Mageia-4, I have recently found that
although it does generate a usable tinyurl, it reports "FAIL!".

So removed Tinyurl extension, and re-installed with 2.6.1.

Now Tinyurl does not work at all!
(The right-click menu shows the option "Create Tinyurl for this
page", but when selected nothing happens (even after waiting 1-2
minutes).

Baffled! Suggestions most welcome...

Oh yes -I did check that that still works - but is tedious compared
with right-clicking in Firefox and hitting 'Create Tinyurl'!

The $64 question is: What has happened to the in-Firebox facility??

I'm using vgd2clipboard add-on.

Try this Tiny-url Generator.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tinyurl-generator/

Add the button to a toolbar. When you want a TinyUrl, click the button
ant it generates the TinyUrl and puts it on your clipboard ready for
pasting. You never leave the page you are on. It works great for me.

It isn't a in-Firefox facility.

Appears to work for me in Firefox 34.0.5.

I would then suggest disabling all your other extensions and see if it
works. If it does, then you need to determine which other extension is
causing the problem.

I use that one. It works great.

I remember using that facility once upon a time, but it's been so long,
I've forgotten how. I'm using the same version of FF as you are. Can you
tell me how to do it?

Interesting add-on, thank you.

Doesn't seem to offer a 'custom alias' option though :-(

Isn't that the one you said you were using in your first post?

"So removed Tinyurl extension, and re-installed with 2.6.1."

It is the one I installed and tested.

You install the extension mentioned in another post, and right click on
the page to create a TinyURL.

You can also put an icon on your toolbar and click on it.

I used to an extension in SeaMonkey web browsers, but it stopped working
years ago. So, I just use JS method.

I use a bookmarklet on my Bookmarks Toolbar:

javascript:void(location.href='http://tinyurl.com/create.php?url='+location.href)

Just create a new bookmark and paste the javascript into the "Location"
box on the dialog. When you click the bookmark it will take you to
TinyURL with the shortcut already created.

The thing that puzzled me was that it now doesn't visibly replace the
long URL with the Tinyurl, which handily confirmed it was done.

Now, it just quietly puts the Tinyurl into the paste buffer, so one is
never sure when it has finished doing it.
(Or have I missed an option to cause it to do that?)

If you use the toolbar button, the button changes from a link (actually,
it look more like an infinity symbol) to a green dot when the TinyURL
has been created.

Ah, yes - now I've managed to coax the icon onto the Toolbar, it does
indeed momentarily change to a green tick when the Tinyurl is ready.

Thank you, Dave!
