The rapid, paralyzing memory bleed that is well-established in FF at this point seems to have no solution. Or rather, no solution that actually works. I became so tired of quitting FF 20 in order to alleviate its glacial pace that I actually tried Chrome and discovered that it works very well.

Ah, well. Adieu, FireFox. It was good while it lasted.

I started having trouble with Firefox a while back and posted here.
Someone suggested doing a "Reset" that got rid of all my add-ons and
Firefox has worked great after that. I have only added back a couple of
the add-ons since then. There must have been something in the many old
ones that I had been carrying around for a while that was causing my
problems.

There are lots of apps that when used for extended periods don't always
return memory to the pool...

Try using MS-Word for extended periods and see how vast a tiny document
can get...

I've also tried Chrome, just for a laugh... Why would you dump a
sophisticated Browser like Firefox in favour of a Toy browser?

Using the *generous* advice/info from this NG, (granted) not all, but most
Fx problems can be sorted... But you have to act on the advice, not just
moan and move on.

I changed back to Chrome for the same reason a couple of weeks ago.
However, Chrome seems to use an awful lot of memory too and I don't
really know any way to cut that down. So it may be that Firefox turns
out to be the lesser of two evils in that respect. I also prefer the
look and feel of FF.

In the past Firefox had some serious memory issues mainly caused by leaking extensions. Luckily during the last years this changed dramatically. Currently with one simple HTML page open and 29 extensions installed my Firefox needs ~480MB RAM.

Is was curious about Chrome so I installed it and I tried to get the same features with Chrome Extensions. The result: Most Chrome extensions are not as good as their Firefox counterparts, some stuff wasn't even possible with the Chrome extension APIs and the result Chrome setup needed 1180MB RAM to display the same HTML page.

Once Firefox had its issues with extensions and their memory consumption but imho this problem is solved now.
But Chrome still has to go this way and currently it is not an acceptable Firefox-replacement for me.

allowing a task for every tab.
