One of my web mail (Juno.com) accounts apparently is coded to cause FF
to use Western vs. Unicode text encoding. Any special character in the
headline or msg is not properly rendered. I have to manually switch
text encoding to Unicode and reopen the msg for it to display properly.
(This does not happen to me on many web sites but is irritating when it
does happen.)

Is there any way to force FF to always use Unicode even if the web site
itself has code that causes FF to change from Unicode to Western?

Using Windows 10 home, FF 48.0.2

I haven't tried it, but it looks like the extension
<https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/charset-switcher/> will do
what you need, remembering what encoding you want for specific sites.

You might also want to complain to Juno. Other webmail sites have long
since solved this problem (I think mostly by switching to Unicode and
converting any mail which uses other encodings to UTF-8).
