in Firefox, they're called bookmarks. In IE they're called favorites.
In Firefox, the bookmarks are all stored in a file called
bookmarks.html, which is located in the FF profile. In IE, they are
stored in an area on your hard drive called the Favorites Folder.
To get the IE favorites into FF, the easiest way is to export the
bookmarks from IE [under File], and export it to an html file. Then
copy that file over to the new computer. Then using FF, click on
Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks, then File, Import and import that File.

You Know You're Getting Even Older When . . . Your address book has
mostly names that start with Dr.
"Favorites" is the Internet Explorer name for bookmarks. If the
"bookmarks" are in the "Favorites folder" as you say, we're not talking
about moving Firefox bookmarks from one machine to another. Instead
we're talking about importing Internet Explorer Favorites from one
machine to a new machine's copy of Firefox.
So, copy the contents of the Favorites folder from the old machine into
the Favorites folder (under your Windows account) on the new machine.
Once there, in Firefox:
Open the Bookmark manager: Bookmarks -> Manage bookmarks
Import the files favorites - while in the bookmark manager:
File -> Import -> from Internet Explorer
