Recovering lost tabs ("restore" is not available)

For some reason all my tabs and windows from the previous sessions were
all gone. As far as I remember I quit FF the usual way ("Quit Firefox"
from the "Firefox" menu).
There's no "restore" available other than for the tabs I've just closed
in the new session (after this happened that is). I haven't
intentionally disabled this function, so something else must have gone
wrong.

I believe there was a solution using the "sessionstore.js" file and the
"sessionstore-backups" folder but the instructions I've found seem
overly complicated and I'm worried I might do more damage.
Suggestions?

I'm using Firefox 64.0.2 (64-bit) on a Mac running OSX 10.9.5.

By the way, below are the files found in my Firefox
"sessionstore-backups" folder. I made a backup copy of this folder
immediately after I noticed that the tabs/windows from my previous
session were all gone.

Is it simply a matter of replacing the "sessionstore.js" file (in the
root of the Firefox profile folder) with one of the above (renaming it
to "sessionstore.js")? I tried it with a couple but it made no
difference, so I must obviously be missing something here.

Try PrefBar and the "restore tab" button --click on the PrefBar and
select customize button and choose which items you want on the bar.
