I used FF24.1.1 on Mageia3 yesterday with my eid card without problems. But
i found out that it is better to first connect the reader and insert the eid
card, and only then start Firefox.
If Firefox is already running, first stop it before connecting the reader.

I installed the most recent QuickInstall a while ago:

[eID-QuickInstaller-build-7382_signed_tcm227-228999.exe]
MD5: [B95101458B1089F63FCF89354EFEF847]
<http://eid.belgium.be/nl/binaries/eID-QuickInstaller-build-7382_signed_tcm227-228999.exe>

Fx 25.0.1 + eID Viewer 4.0.5 158

Fx add-on Belgium eID 1.0.18
<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/belgium-eid/>
(I see you already posted there. Support should respond fairly quickly.)

Java JRE 7 Update 45 x86

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 - all updates installed

Card reader: ACR38U-SPC-FDT (FW104)

Everything works fine. I just logged in on a couple of sites and there
were no problems.I could close Fx and start it again.

Not disputing it but what is your source for the assertions on the
abbreviations?

Certainly seems to me that FF is a proper abbreviation. If not, then
shouldn't it be simply F, assuming you're abbreviating a two syllable
and singular word?

But, then again, an abbreviation needs to contain enough context to be
immediately evocative, eh? So, yeah, FF works for me. But FX has also
been used in the video production and film industry as shorthand for
"effects." So I'd shy away from that one. And it's also the name of a
cable TV network. So, nah, not a good one.

But, frankly, the difference in the time it takes me to type FF vs.
Firefox ... uh ... geez. Talk about truly lazy. What was that? A
nano-second?

Then, it has nothing to do with the eid-software. Can you try to disable all
your plugins, and test again?

Fx 25.0.1 + eID Viewer 4.0.5 158 (eID4.05(7382)) if you will)

I closed Fx with the cardreader connected containing eID. Started Fx
again. (Is this what you meant?) No problems.

Maybe on your end, but I can remove it. At least, in Fx 25.0.1 I can.
Belgium eID 1.0.18 has two buttons: [Disable] [Remove]

If you haven't already done so, and as others don't seem to have any
show-stopping problems, it would be appropriate to also present the
issue to the Portable Apps. folks.

So, I started my Win 7 PC, and had no problems but Firefox was on version
16.0.2
I installed the latest version Firefox 25.0.1, and then I got your problem.

But i also noticed that the Eid-viewer program did not work anymore as well.
It mentioned "No device found" (actually "Geen kaartlezer gevonden").
I checked the Win hardware control, and that showed the card reader to be OK
with the latest driver.

I removed the Belgium Eid software and reinstalled it. The software
installation went OK as far as I could see, but the process hangs at the
second step, recognizing the card reader (which seems quit like Firefox
hanging).

So I guessed that somehow the latest Firefox installation corrupted the
device driver.
I downloaded the device driver from the internet, installed it again and
that solved the problem.

Merely on the basis of the responses you are getting here. I see the
developer is aware of your issue.

If you say so, but that's what my win installation showed me as well. I got
around the FF problem it by the action I described. I have no idea which
type of smart card reader you have, mine is an ACR38U type.
