Can someone tell me what was that version of FF

Either I install "that" old version (if possible) or switch to an
other browser.

Think you must have been imagining it, never known a firefox with "save
as PDF" functionality, you could print to a PDF driver, or maybe you
were using something chromium based?

There is an extension called Save as PDF.

None as far as I know.

I doubt if there are any other browsers that can save as pdf.  However, on Windows 10 it is easy to create a pdf file because Microsoft gives you pdf "print driver" for free.  All you do is to print the webpage on your pdf printer which Microsoft installs by default.  Search for "Microsoft Print to pdf" on your machine if you are using Windows 10.

Chromium on Linux can save a page as pdf, so I expect Chrome can.

On Windows there aren't any browsers that can do this.  I don't know what the OP is using but I suspect he must be using Windows with some flavours!  His user agent is isn't telling us anything.

Sure there are ... chrome and the new edge for starters, probably
everything else "chromey" and (via a printer driver) firefox end even
internet explorer.

How do you do that in Chrome? I have Chrome and see no option to save
page as PDF.

Maybe a "save as pdf" add-on.

In Windows there is no "Save as . ."  option.  You can print to pdf (as I stated in my previous posts) but this was not what was asked and the OP wants "Save as . . " option and for that he'll need to change the Mozilla Code and recompile it for his needs.   Not easy for people who are not coders by profession.

There is no need for Add-Ons when you can Print to pdf.  I have avoided Add-Ons for years and I encourage other users to do the same.  Add-Ons can result in all sorts of problems when Windows and Firefox can do most things for everyday use without any Add-Ons.

For most users all they want is stable system that can enable them to do their work efficiently and Firefox and Windows can do exactly that.

Somewhat oddly, you have to go into "print" then there's an destination
of "save as PDF"

Looking at the result, it doesn't seem to be a disguised print option,
the PDF file produced is written by the skia graphics library (which
google purchased and open-sourced).

OK... I knew about that functionality. I thought you meant there was a
Save as PDF option hiding somewhere and I hadn't run across that.

Thanks,

Sorry for the confusion I caused. Old age maybe or just anger at what
they did to what was a great browser.

I should have wrote it was FF Android on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A
(2017).

On the Android version there was that option in the menu to "save as
pdf". I had so many important webpages saved as pdf that just vanish
with the famous update (number ?? 78 79)

In my desktop FF; no such option: I'm using "Print friendly & Pdf"

So I was looking for the LAST ""Android"" version number were "save
as pdf" was still an option that is before that famous update where it
was not possible to go back to the old version unless....etc, etc.

On my tablet I don't mind staying with an old version.

I don't do things by rote... so verily, it wuz written about Android
Ffox... run for the hills.

As a tablet user expecting a modicum of desktop-style function, the
discumTABulated fiasco sent me scurrying back to Samsung's (even more
recently) improved stock browser.

I see that firefox has now gained "Save to PDF" functionality (using
cairo graphics) under "print..."

I can't find any reference to it in the 84.0 or 85.0 release notes, when
was it introduced?

ff 81 ??

It's optional.  Users need to tweak their config to true.   The main changes are new Print Preview window.

It appears that Windows 10 Pro comes with a free "Microsoft print to PDF" driver. There are also addons for FF that will save to PDF.

Firefox has been opening PDF's in a tab for a long time now. The tab has
a download button.

Doesn't the OP mean "printing" a page, where you select a virtual PDF printer
as the Destination?

That's an option that has existed for a long, long time.
But an add-on is an option too:

Personally I prefer the virtual printer, because it works
not only for FF, but for anything you want to "print" as
pdf in Win.

At an OS level, yes. But this is a FF feature.

You don't need an addon. It's part of FF, since v86. See:

Yes, I believe so.

Here, selecting Print for any FF page offers all available printers,
including "...to PDF". (I just tested it). Of course, how much of the
page actually prints is controlled server-side.

If OP doesn't see Print to PDF, I wonder whether they have Print to PDF
available at all.

In addition to "Print to PDF" which (if it exists at all) is provided by
the operating system, the latest firefox offers "Save to PDF" even if
the operating system has no printers.

Glad question was asked and wondered and now I see on my 86.0 on file -
print I can save as PDF.
