NoScript should work. I just went to the MSNBC site and couldn't
reproduce what you're talking about, even though I have NoScript allow
Javascript on the main site. FF does report that a pop-up window was
blocked, upon first going to the site.
Do you know a way I can narrow down the specificity?
Well, as I'm sure you know, NoScript allows you to enable or disable
javascript on specific sources, but if it's yahoo.com itself causing the
popup you want to block, I don't know of a way to block it without
blocking yahoo.com itself.
Well, there may be another way. Try Adblock Plus combined with Element
Hiding Helper.
If you can provide a specific example, I'll give it a shot.
You talking about the pop up menus or the little bit of additional
information that pops up when you mouse over links?
If it's the latter, go into about:config, search:
browser.chrome.toolbar_tips
doubleclick to change to false.

> The FF built-in pop-up blocker does not catch these!
> Using FF 3.5.7 on Windows XP Pro SP3.
