Since a Thunderbird update in the past few months, Google Calendar is constantly asking for login.
I uninstalled Lightening, have reinstalled and now calendar is not loading at all. I've logged into Google 3 times in this session.
I've used Lightening without problems for years yet seem to be unable to resolve this issue. Please Advise!

I've had to abandon T-bird completely because of a similar issue.  It's
worse for me because I use gmail-IMAP for my mail service and I like
being connected all day.
Google has determined that Thunderbird is "not sufficiently secure!"  I
have no idea why.  If you prowl around Google help, you will find a
page where you can "allow less secure client software to access" your
account.

I know, this doesn't help much.  Maybe Mozilla-Sync could serve
calendars?!  Maybe Google would tell somebody what makes them consider
Thunderbird less secure -- if only one could find a human in the
Google-verse.

Thanks. Thought I had cracked it. When looking through those help pages
I discovered the password for my google calendar on my iPhone & iPad had
been removed. Might have had something to do with resetting the password
for my main email account which is linked to my gmail account. However,
this didn't resolve the problem. I then enabled the google option to
'allow less secure client software to access your account' but this
still didn't resolve it.

Have now resolved it by unsubscribing to the Google caldav calendar and
setting up an ical version.

Spoke to soon. Get Modification_Failed error when trying add/amend event.

This is expected. The ical connection provides just read-only access. To
get write access with Lightning you need to connect using the built-in
CalDAV provider or use the additional Provider for Google Calendar
extension.

Thanks. The original poster and myself are both experiencing the same
issue with the CalDav provider as every time we launch Thunderbird (&
ipso facto, Lightning) there is a request from Google to enter
username/password details. As you correctly state, the iCal version
needs the Provider for Google Calendar but this doesn't synch the calendar.

There seems to be a bug
(<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1154256>) filed for this,
but there's not much going on :-(
