What do you mean by needing better calendar functionality?

The version of calendar installed should match the version of
Thunderbird installed. My Lightning in Thunderbird 68.10.0 is version
68.10.0.

Maybe this will help.

As I recall, Lightning is built into the latest Thunderbird installers. There's
nothing to download.

It is still an extension in the 68.x.x versions which is already
installed in Thunderbird.

It is integrated starting with version 78.0.

Right. Or put another way, the extention is included with the TB installer, so
downloading the extention separately (which it sounded like the OP did) is not
required.

That's why John should follow this section of the previous support link
if he is unable to load the calendar.

<https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird#w_lightning-disappears-after-a-thunderbird-update-release-and-beta-versions>

He still hasn't answered my question about what "better calendar
functionality" he needs.
