is there a way to setup Lightning and Sunbird to use the same .sdb file,
so that an appointment or event, that is entered via Lightning is
visible in Sunbird?
Thanks,
Lutz
I'd recommend a shared ics calendar instead. Create a new empty text
file with the file extension .ics somewhere. From Sunbird and
Lightning (in Calendar Mode) choose File -> Open Calendar File and
select the .ics file. You now have a new shared calendar.
thanks for the hint - it showed me, how to work with multiple calendars
in Sunbird.
Unfortunateley this doesen't work for sharing one calendar beteween
Sunbird and Lightning since Lightning doesnt show a menu item "open
calendar file". The only option is "import calendar file", which adds
the appointments in that file, but doesn't create a fixed link to the
calendar file.

Are you using an old Lightning release? In Lightning 0.8 switch to
Calendar Mode and choose File -> Open -> Calendar File as described.
For older Lightning releases I'd recommend the following: In Sunbird
open the Properties dialog for the calendar and copy the file://
address. In Lightning create a new calendar (On the Network,
iCalendar) and paste the address copied from Sunbird.

The "->" indicates that you need to go to a lower level, e.g. a sub
menu entry.
Does Lightning then make a local hard copy that it then keeps updating
per the refresh settings? I'm wondering what happens when I no longer
have access to the main ics file on my server (eg, no internet access
or my site is down for maintenance).
I just thought of another question I hadn't seen discussed. How are
reminders handled so I'm only getting reminders for MY events and not
the events of everyone else in the common ics file?
Did this using Lightning 0.9 & Sunbird 0.8. Last done was SB & received
warning window "an error has occurred" ..."Error reading data for
calendar: Shared calendar placed in read only. ..change with edit
calendar." "[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x804a0100
[calIICSService.parseICS]" nsresult: "0x804a0100 (<unknown>)"
location: "JS frame ::
file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Sunbird/js/calIcsParser.js ::
ip_parseString :: line 58" data: no]
What must I do for an encore? Is there a SB 0.9 available that must be
updated as well? And if to share in the future must updated simultaneously?
Oh, if it makes any difference the new file was placed in Lightning
subfolder under Thunderbird/extensions/lightning's coded name.

Additional info: Reopened SB 0.8 and there was an update for 0.9 which
is installed. In SB "sharedCalendar" was not available and unchecked
read only, but it returns with the next start up.
Lightning had 4 calendars as read only and dismissed 3, but
"sharedCalendar" remains read only after a few trials.
Both programs not being run at same time. Even closed down TB before
starting SB.
