Ladies & Gents,

I'm at my wits end here with trying to figure out why my new Bugzilla installation is not sending emails out.

A bit of background information:

OS Version: RHEL 7.5
Bugzilla Version: 5.0

When I create a new user and I click on the Notify User checkbox, nothing happens. Nothing in the /var/log/maillog nor in /var/log/messages. However, in the /var/log/httpd/error.log, I see this:

[Wed Jun 13 00:05:47.920028 2018] [cgi:error] [pid 2019] [client x.x.x.x:59437] AH01215: [Wed Jun 13 00:05:47 2018] editusers.cgi: Argument contains empty address at lib/Email/MIME/Encode.pm line 153., referer: http://y.y.y.y/editusers.cgi?action=add
[Wed Jun 13 00:05:47.922821 2018] [cgi:error] [pid 2019] [client x.x.x.x:59437] AH01215: [Wed Jun 13 00:05:47 2018] editusers.cgi: Argument contains empty address at lib/Email/MIME/Encode.pm line 153., referer: http://y.y.y.y/editusers.cgi?action=add

For mail_delivery_method, I've tried SMTP and Sendmail. Fairly certain the remaining parameters I'm using in the Bugzilla mail config. page are correct - i.e. - mailfrom, smtpserver, smtp_username, smtp_password & smtp_ssl (on).

I've tried both smtp.gmail.com:587 and email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com:587 with no luck.

To make sure that my mail configuration parameters are correct, I've configured postfix with smtp.gmail.com and I was able to send test messages out from the CLI. I also configured postfix with email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com and was also able to send messages out from the CLI.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Regards,
Martin

Use "Test" instead, which should create some file in the "data"
directory of the Bugzilla installation directory. Have a look at that
content and I guess you see something wrong regarding the error
messages from your log.

If the file isn't created, that's another hint that there's some
problem with your forms or such. Did you customize Bugzilla in any
way?

Greetings Thorsten and thank you for the reply.

I haven't done any customization to Bugzilla. Just a plain-vanilla installation.

I used the "Test" option per your suggestion. The only file I saw get created under ./data is the params.json file and I don't see anything that raises a red flag - to my untrained eyes at least. Below are its contents:

Just to be clear, you did create a new user after changing to "Test"
exactly like you did before? Besides users, check if mails get created
with "Test" setting on new bugs or bug changes. Make sure to have all
bug related mails enabled in the user preferences the bug is assigned
to or who is CC or who does the change.

Looks like you need to debug this further on your own:

https://mozilla.logbot.info/bugzilla/20180104#c14075865
https://www.mail-archive.com/me...@public-inbox.org/msg01865.html

Did you use install-module.pl to install dependencies? If so, try to
empty the lib folder and use the package manager of your distribution
instead. Use install-module.pl only for things not provided by the
package manager.
