Trying to use Exchange Distribution Lists for assignee

Running Bugzilla version 5.0.6
Attempting to add an Exchange Distribution list as an assignee for bugs but Bugzilla doesnt find it even though I can send email to it from anywhere. Is this a bug or by design? It would make it MUCH easier to do assignments via changing to the email system as opposed to going into bugzilla and having to key in bunches of email addresses.
Any thoughts on if it could be supported?
