I need help to understand the whining-feature in BZ4.2.1

I´m the only who recive whining emails every week. What can be the reason?
How can I log the whining process?

I have activate SMTP-Debug, but only the status-mails will be logged. These
status-mails will be sending out to all my users. But not the whining-mails.

Maybe you could elaborate what "a problem" means and what you've tried
so far.

I have no problem getting status-change mails, as when a bug changes to resolved fixed for instance, but i do not get the whinning report mails for some reason.

I was not sure what to try in order to fix it, on the administrator-parameters-email page, i change the mail_delivery_method from sendmail to smtp and I still get the same issue. Regular status change mails are sent, but not the whining reports mails.

I have no idea what else to try.

Few more details, i have version 4.2.4

I've turned on the smtp_debug.

Hi All;

I went to Administration --> Field Values --> Status

and added a number of new status values. However when I go to
add/modify a bug I still only see the old list (In Progress, Confirmed, etc)

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Bugzilla tells you what to do when you add a new bug status: you must
include it in the bug status workflow.

How's your whining setup? You need saved searches and cron or similar
to execute the whining script. Besides that, the script itself must be
able to send mails, which may be prevented by SELinux or AppArmor.
Even if your configured both properly for Bugzilla itself, this only
affected httpd, not the whining script.

The whinings are setup correctly, with saved searches, etc'

I wasn't aware about the cron thing. I've now edited crontab to run whineatnews.pl and whine.pl.

I'm not sure who to set them up to use the smtp or sendmail, and if it's even needed. I'm currently waiting for the whine script to launch and see if it sends the reports.

I'll let you know, hopefuly in matter of minutes, if it's working or not.

Anyway, thanks for the help, you've certainly aimed me to the right direction.

It's not, the script uses whatever Bugzilla uses to send mails, it's
just another program actually sending it and not httpd as it may be by
normal Bugzilla usage. Do you have something like SELinux or AppArmor
running?

First configure testfile in Bugzilla as method for sendings mails and
see if the test file is created if the whining scripts ran. This
should work or your whine setup is not correct.

If the test file has been created choose the method for sending mails
in Bugzilla that worked before. If it was sendmail this should work
with whining as well as neither Bugzilla nor the whining script itself
need to talk to a mail server directly. If you configured SMTP look at
your SELinux/AppArmor-setup to see if httpd is allowed to communicate
with your mail server. If yes, you need to allow the same thing for
the whining script "somehow".

It is working now.
I setup the cron file, and switched from SMTP to sendmail and it started working.

Thank you for all the help :)
