Translation Sprint for Eloquent JavaScript manual in Paris

hi all,

Let me share with you one recent experience supported by ReMo (and perhaps
give you the idea to launch something of the same kind)

"Hey what with indulging in a translation all weekend long?" This was the
question a team of French gonzo translators answered positively on September
16th to 18th. The challenge was even crazier: to achieve full translation of
a 120 pages manual dedicated to JavaScript language during the week-end. As
it is a beginner's guide we found that the explanations given along with
executable code snippets deserved to be translated into French, in order to
induce young people to learn code and why not, to become developper one day.

Well, they just did it.

The collaborative working

dedicated framapads - it is a customed etherpad which is very
convenient for online and real-time collaborative work.

The idea was to meet in real life and share work and fun as well, so a group
of 10 persons was gathered. Who were they?
Framalang<http://blogs.mozilla-europe.org/Framalang>and
frenchmozilla <http://frenchmozilla.fr/> volunteers mostly who were already
quite experienced with collaborative translation, with the online help of
several friends among the FLOSS French community.

We were conveniently using Mozilla Europe office in Paris thanks to Tristan
Nitot (Mozilla Europe Prez), food and beverage for all as well as train
tickets was covered by the budget I requested on ReMo.

It was both intense work and intense fun in a very pleasant and friendly

Now the good news: by the beginning of November, *the French online manual
will be hosted on MDN (Mozilla Development Network)* which will give a
broader visibility to the resource among wannabe developers :)
