Hello everyone!

I want to share a couple of ReMo activities in Toronto I've initiated for
the second quarter of this year.

First a little background: I came to Toronto lat year as an immigrant and I
was in contact to a couple of non-profits that helped newcomers to Canada.
They are ACCES Employment, a non-profit that specifically helps new
immigrants integrate into the Canadian workforce, and the Kababayan
Community Centre (KCC), a local community center.

The rationale is pretty simple: immigrants are one sector that can make use
of the Webmaker initiatives and eventually, if they would like to, become
Mozilla Reps. I've blogged more about this at
http://weboplex.com/post/20818871125/job-seekers-as-webmakers.

The first activity is a 5-week workshop at the KCC where I'll be sharing
knowledge on IT, the Open Web included. The workshop has been rescheduled
to May 13 to June 10.

The second activity is at the ACCES Emmployment office (date to be
finalized) and the focus will be more on job-hunting and creating web
resumes. One of the things I intend to do is use X-Ray Goggles to
demonstrate how folks can hack a pre-made online resume to be their own.

These are pretty niche activities, but I do think they're attuned to what
Mozilla is about and have the potential to be helpful for the local
community.

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to chime in. I'm looking
forward to your inputs. :)

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing Regnard.

These are really interesting initiatives and illustrate well how important it is to help people outside of the "usual" tech/IT/FOSS circles benefit from open web technologies and learn more about the Mozilla project.

I particularly love the idea of using X Ray Goggles to hack pre-made online CVs.

Brilliant!

William

Thanks William! These are situations where there was a good intersection
between a community need and what the Open Web, ReMo, and Webmaking are all
about. Nothing fancy-- but it could actually make a difference. :)
