Have we started Firefox OS Coverage in Media and News publications yet? Any developments and ideas?

Hi Dwaraka,

i got mail a mail 2 days before from Firefox OS and Developer Engagement
teams:

*>>"Hello Mozillians:*
* *
*As we get ready for the new year, we are planning some big programs and
opportunities to prepare for the launch of Firefox OS and wanted to give
you an early heads up about them. *
*
*
*At this stage, we ask that you do not share (blog/tweet etc.) the news
outside of Mozillians, since we will be officially announcing this series
of events in the first week of January. We will be announcing after the
holidays in order to generate more awareness and attention, as well as
press coverage.*
*
*
*How you can get involved in this next major landmark for Mozilla: *
* *
*For developers: In January, we will hold our first ever Firefox OS App
Days. *
*
*
*Firefox OS App Days are a set of 20+ developer hack days hosted by the
Mozilla community and supported by Mozilla Reps, designed to educate and
inspire developers to work on apps and submit them to Firefox Marketplace.
With more 20+ simultaneous App Day events on January 26 generating
excitement worldwide, we can demonstrate grassroots developer momentum in
the run up to Mobile World Congress.*
*
*
*For everyone: Also in January, we'll be providing some clear, easy
opportunities for everyone to participate and prepare for the Firefox
OSlaunch in 2013, from testing to support, and more.
*
* *
*Developers, if you're near one of the Firefox OS App Days, we hope you
will register and participate! All events happen between January 19-26th
and most are one day. *
*
*
*For more information you can check out our wiki page or register for an
event near you:*
*https://wiki.mozilla.org/Engagement/Developer_Engagement/FirefoxAppDays*
*
*
*Please contact Stormy, Mark Coggins or Havi Hoffman if you have any
questions. We will provide information in January about more ways you can
participate in Firefox OS.*

Hi Faisal and Dwaraka,

The main events will be happening between January 19th and January 26th. So
probably media will be speaking and covering that from those dates. Also,
the events will have a hashtag on twitter (I think is #firefoxOSAppdays, or
something yet to be defined).

I think we can, as a reps, write more on our blogs and try to explain to
bloggers what is FirefoxOS about. Or to promote through social networks.

I don't think that media coverage will start until end of January, but we
can create a Gdoc to follow up this on different countries.

Regards.

Hey Francis and Faisal,

Yeah, I got that email as well. And so we should start our publicity stuff through PR only by January. But, take the case of India here. We have got our Mozilla Firefox OS Hackathon scheduled for 26th of January for which the registrations end this month.

What good would it do if we publicize later in blogs and magazines about an event for which nobody can register and participate? For scenarios like in India, it is high time we hit marketing.

Hi Dwarka and Francis,

Dwarka, i am agree with your point because 19th Jan will be too late for
spreading words about FirefoxOS Hackathon. i have created Facebook page to
connect all Mozillians and interested persons for Appdays. But for a full
fledged promotion and marketing we need sufficient time.

i think first week of Jan should be considered for starting publicity, wot
say?

First week of January is the minimum we can do, may be. It is holiday season everywhere. But, sure not in India. If only we had authorization to proceed with publicity.

Dwaraka.

One more thing Dwaraka, As you know participants are coming from all over
India, and getting reservations for Bangalore is not a cup of coffee in
India, Few fellas were asking me about it. So they can only get reservation
if prior confirmation will be given atleast 20 Days before.

Yeah, another convincing reason to start promotions ASAP.
