Hi all,

we are in the state of planning a Mozilla Open Source Support (MOSS)
project, "Mission Partners" Application. The according wiki
(https://wiki.mozilla.org/MOSS/) has had mentioned mentors to help with
this. Because we never applied for a Mozilla project before, we were
looking for a mentor since weeks now.

Thanks to the help of Gervase Markham (thanks Gerv!) we finally found out
the email address of David Bryant - but he does not answer; not by email and
not via twitter or linkedin.

Now the wikis of the MOSS (wiki.mozilla.org/*) do not have ANY mentors
mentioned any more on their webpages. Only the Google cache still shows
them (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:FUmbCClBXIoJ:https://wiki.mozilla.org/MOSS+&cd=1&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de).

So is there any chance, that someone else might check our project and
gives us some advice?

Best,
Wolfgang Sander-Beuermann

I realise you emailed me this question a few days ago and I have not
replied (I was at a conference), but I would gently suggest that calling
someone out like this in public is unnecessary. Our mentors offer their
time for free and they are busy people.

Did you try Pascal Finette, the other listed non-specialist mentor?

That's simply not true. See:

let's make sure that mail is getting through, etc. It's an annual
"check-in" / refresh with mentors probably makes sense.

I'll do that straight away.

Might I suggest a mentors mailing list and then any mentor could respond versus failing at individual attempts? Committee could also be subscribed to see when threads aren't getting a response.

If we retain the mentoring system, we could consider that. There are a
couple of reasons which don't make it an obvious development: firstly,
although different mentors have different skills (as outlined in the
wiki page) and I'm loath to add to busy people's email burden. Secondly,
addressing a single mentor makes it unambiguous who is being asked to
reply; addressing a list makes it more likely that all mentors will
think "someone else will get that one".

Given that the role of the mentors is to allow people to polish their
applications before the committee sees them, I think applicants might
want the committee not to be on this list. I could be, though.

Hi Gerv,

thanks you very much for your help again! We have emailed our project
planning now to Pascal Finette (pas...@finette.com and
pascal...@finette.com).

Sorry when posting my question for help to the list was not appropiate!
I have simply seen no other way to get support.

SORRY again!: I have simply overseen that.

I really appreciate that people do that. I am myself often in situations
like that. But if people are _too_ busy and don't have any time for
mentoring, not even for an initial confirmation, I feel they should not by
named as mentors.

Best,
Wolfgang
