Hi-

You may recall I wrote this list recently to discuss some proprietary
demos that we added to demo studio as part of Firefox's 10th Anniversary
promotions. Those demos are here:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/demos/detail/unreal-engine-4-strategy-game
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/demos/detail/unity-5-angry-bots

Mozilla was granted a temporary license to include these demos in the
demo studio. Now, we have the option to ask their creators for a
permanent license to include them. I would like to hear from this group:
Do you think these demos are valuable enough to seek a permanent license
to include them forever? The alternative is to take these demos down
next week, which I plan to do unless I hear a strong preference for
leaving them up[0].

Additional points to consider:
* It is unlikely that any license to distribute the C code that makes
these games run
* If we secure a right to host the demos, we may still be restricted
from providing a link to download the asm.js code (which has little
practical impact, since asm.js code is not readable)
* These demos violate the demo studio's terms[1], particularly #4 which
prohibits violence, but they are not the first, the only, or (probably)
the last demos to do so[2]

Thanks for your input!

Hi!

I don't think we should keep them on MDN – as demos, maybe they have a
future as hacks blog posts.
They are of little practical interest to learn how to do these, at least
without a clear and thorough explanation.

How long until we have to decide?

They got some good coverage from outside Mozilla [1] and are still
getting more traffic then previous demos. [2]

If we take them down, we should leave redirects behind pointing maybe to
the authors sites?
