Hello!

I am requesting to access to make shortlinks (
http://mzl.la/<http://mzl.la/MyNb9w>_________)
as we have a # of Firefox OS articles that will require it.

Thanks!

Andrew

Anyone can use mzl.la shorten links...

1. Shorten a URL with bit.ly
2. (optional) Customize the shorten URL and replace bit.ly with mzl.la

An example of mine:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Site_Compatibility_for_Firefox_22
-> https://mzl.la/22compat

bugzil.la shoren URL has been provided by Reed Loden:
http://www.squarefree.com/2010/01/14/shorter-urls-for-bugzilla-mozilla-org/

Hope this helps,
-Kohei

The 2nd step don't work, it doesn't let us change the `bit.ly` part of shorten url.
Either I'd try to post a page under mozilla.org url, it won't shorten to mzl.la.
I took http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/legal.html for test, it goes to http://bit.ly/YindQi and the customize function only let me change 'YindQi' parts.

Oh yes, on the bit.ly site, the domain will be automatically changed to bit.ly after customizing your mzl.la URL.
But, when you post the URL to your blog or somewhere, you can *manually* change the domain from bit.ly to mzl.la.
It should still work.

For example, on the bitly dashboard, I've shorten
https://developer.mozilla.org/ja/docs/Site_Compatibility_for_Firefox_22
to https://mzl.la/YnvRbz then customized it to https://bit.ly/22compat-ja.
Even after that, I can still use https://mzl.la/22compat-ja instead.

Hi Kohei,

I think the problem is that the url under developer.mozilla.org works fine,
but the url of mozilla.org (and many others) not.

I got developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Using_microformats shorten to
mzl.la/1561Btp
but www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/mozilla-spaces/ shorten to
bit.ly/ZYXw2f(and not
mzl.la/ZYXw2f)

You're right, Irvin. mzl.la shorten URLs have worked for www.mozilla.com but don't work for www.mozilla.org and most of the Mozilla properties. Someone in MoCo should update the enabled domain list on the Bitly Enterprise dashboard. That's http://bugzil.la/668191

AFAIK, you need bit.ly API key that is used by Mozilla account.

Thanks everyone for identifying the issue. I have reached out to the
Bitly team to get mozilla.org and some subdomains added so they will
automatically be shortened to mzl.la URLs. You can follow the status in
the bug http://bugzil.la/668191
