Just thought some would like to know m.general is one newsgroup on a
list of many to be shuttered and archived. The process may start
tomorrow. 😲

<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1465226>

I would advise using mozilla.support.calendar, m.s.firefox,
m.s.seamonkey and m.s.thunderbird for your support questions.

The official support forums on the web are accessible from
<https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/> (Sorry, no SeaMonkey)

Unofficial support can be found at mozillaZine
<http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php> (Has SeaMonkey)

The truth is that all newsgroups will disappear from Internet sooner or
later. The reason is that most users post nonsense useful for nothing.

But you're a foul-mouthed troll who regularly abuses other win10 users
on the alt.comp.os.windows-10 newsgroup whenever you don't like them
drawing attention to windows 10 problems. You frequently set followup-to
headers to linux groups and accuse them of being the source of trolling
that originated with you.

You're at the bottom of the barrel and widely killfiled on
alt.comp.os.windows-10, nobody really likes you there.

Most newsgroups I used to follow are dead. The few that still have
some traffic have participants who are polite, respect each other, and
follow both explicitly suggested and informal unwritten rules. They do
occasionally chat off-topic, but they don't rant.

Some binary groups were destroyed by flooders (using Power Post and
yEnc), or off-topic posts (mostly politics and porn). But most of the
groups just faded out as people's interests shifted, and social media
offered supposedly "free" alternatives. Some current groups will
continue only as long as current users are still alive. That includes
me: I've had a couple of "incidents" that remind me I'm much closer to
the end than the beginning of my life.

I've been part of thsi group for quite a while, and have had many
interesting conversations here. I'll be sorry to see it shut down.

Is this just the newsgroup? Or the email list as well?

Only the GG archive will remain.

The good news is, the person the bug is assigned to, left Mozilla in
February 2018, hasn't been reading bugmail since 2015, and hasn't acted
on any of the bugs assigned to him for that product and component.

<https://mzl.la/2kMWf1R>

Maybe the reporter of the bug wasn't aware of all of that.

On the long term Usenet may vanish altogether. But it has been said a
zillion times before that Usenet will soon cease to exist, because of
the garbage and the lack op interest. Even so there are still some
newsgroups that are quite active and where the usual jerks are kept
in check by the participants.

The problem is that there's nothing to replace it. Sure enough, there
are a zillion forums, but each of them you have to find, you have to
register (which means leaving more or less personal information in a
zillion places), their scope tends to be very narrow, and lots of them
are very inactive (too). That makes them not very useful. Adn whereas
Usenet is still some sort of community, forums are not.

No.

Banks are notorious for not allowing secure passwords.

I had one that would only allow a 6 character password, no uppercase
letters, and no numbers. Ridiculous.

Use "My bank has long required uppercase AND lower case AND numeric elements"
as pass sentence: easy to rememer and yet a lot more difficult to crack than
6/7/8-char passwords with figures and special chars. Except of course for

My bank doesn't require a password. I use my bank card, a Digipass
reader and my PIN-code for transactions. I need the Digipass to confirm
transactions or even simple things like adding a new contact/account.

All sorts of data are required when doing a transaction. For instance, I
have to enter the total amount of money I want to transfer, the last
four numbers of at least one of the accounts I'm transferring money too
and finally my PIN code. AFAIK this offers much more protection than a
password.

I want ease/speed of entry by touch-typing. I'm willing to supply more
characters, I just don't want to have to use the numbers and characters,
which I never learned. Caps are a minor nuisance.

What I really hate are stupid sites requiring multiple captchas to
identify shit that isn't necessarily identifiable, which sites don't --
as far as I'm concerned -- need ANY security.

Good Guy, I have seen you post some stuff which I thought might have
actually been helpful to the situation under discussion ... *some* ...
but very, very, occasionally!! And that is probably most often in the
alt.windows7.general UseNet group.

So I don't have you killfiled!!

And, every time you post, we have to put up with your HTML formatted
posts *AND* your garbage sig file Windows 10 AD.

When I weigh up the Pros and Cons .... *BYE BYE* !! At least from here!

Gerv used to organise a sweepstake: you could win swag for filing

role now?

My bloviated meandering follows what Don Spam's Reckless Son graced us
with on 2/19/2019 9:15 AM:
I'm saddened to to hear this. While I had known him on a personal level,
I had come to know him from numerous discussions on a professional level.

A belated condolence to his loved ones.
