Hi,

We would like to upgrade JS Engine version from 1.6 to 1.8 as one of
the bugfix which we are waiting for is provided in 1.8 But when I
visited the spider-monkey site (https://developer.mozilla.org/En/
SpiderMonkey/1.8), it still shows coming soon. The site was last
updated in March 2009.
Can anyone please tell me whether its released or when the release 1.8
would be
available. The site mentions that its candidate release.

Thanks and With Warm Regards,

-RV

I have the same question as RV. For our product, we currently use SpiderMonkey 1.7 and would like to upgrade to 1.8. However, it looks like 1.8 is in RC1 state for a long time now. From another thread on this list, I understand Wes Garland and others are working on getting a (~firefox 3.0.11, JS 1.8.0) release, but we do not have a date yet.

SpiderMonkey 1.8 RC1 shipped in Firefox 3.0, and it is pretty stable I assume. My question is should I just update to 1.8 RC1 or wait for another month or two. Because of product cycle restrictions, I cannot delay the upgrade more. Are there any showstopper issues to upgrading to 1.8 RC1?

And while we are at it, if I have to update to a Pre Release candidate, should I also consider upgrading to Tracemonkey / SpiderMonkey 1.8.1 instead? I understand it is jsapi with JS 1.8, tracing JIT and more goodies, but I would not want to risk stability for these awesome things.

Help much appreciated,
Nishant Kaushik
