 Hi all,

I'm really glad to see this come up as a result of the RTL hackathon in Sri Lanka.

I'm looking for people to test RTL on Fennec for Android and Fennec for iOS. As was pointed out in Colombo, this is the tracking bug for RTL on Fennec for Android -- https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702845 We need to start moving through the dependency bugs and determining if they're real blockers for RTL in Android. The bug is quite old and it's possible that these are non-issues now. I recall that some of you tested Arabic and Persian on Android devices in Colombo and said that the quality wasn't too bad. It would be great to get some specifics about that.

For iOS, there currently are no RTL locales localizing Fennec for iOS. If any of the four RTL locales would be willing to localize the product, we could begin testing RTL in iOS as well.

I've created this Doodle poll[1] to hold a Vidyo call for RTL Fennec. If you're interested in helping with this effort, please state when the best time for you is in the poll and use your email address as your name.

Thanks,
Jeff

And while we're at it, this idea have just come up:
Maybe we should work on having some sort of a general RTL styleguide/spec for common parts and elements that get repeated across Mozilla projects, e.g. mozilla.org, Firefox OS, Firefox for Android, for iOS etc.. And have some rules of thumb added to it.
Something to help people kick off testing RTL in any of those projects.
For that I've created an etherpad to collect all those details

https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/rtl-styleguide

This is generally an easy task for any native speaker of an RTL script language, so feel free to add your thoughts to the etherpad!

Next step would be creating a draft of a spec out of the list we end up with and for that some designer friends from the community have stepped in and are willing to help with transforming it into a PDF file like the one we use in testing RTL in FFOS 2.5.

Looking forward to see what can we produce out of this :)

Cheers,
Ahmed

Just to give an idea of what the RTL specs are for Firefox OS, and maybe to give some inspiration:

Hi all,

I just reviewed Fennec and made a report of the things that I thought are needed to get fixed. While mailing list has a limitation on attachments, I put  both ODT[1] and PDF[2] files on my Google Drive, so others can also discuss or add something to it.

Best Wished,

Arash,

I've just went through your document very carefully, thanks a lot for this effort, I gotta say I'm very impressed because it sums up pretty much all the elements we'd eventually want to mirror in Fennec in a very nicely described and detailed manner. That is so cool! I think this even amounts to a first draft of a spec that we can use to determine what to fix next in Fennec!
At this point I think we're also ready to start filing UI bugs to work on separately.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Ahmed
