I know that this list is for developers, and I apologize for intruding into
it. But I have posted this problem on three separate user forums without
success. I hope someone will be willing to address it.

The system is openSuSE v10.3. Other applications print properly, so the
problem is not in the printing subsystem. Firefox, on the other hand,
prints as though it were set for Letter-size paper (leaving a lot of the
page blank), although there is a following line in about:config saying
that "print.postscript.paper_size" is A4. Another line says
that "print.print_printer" is "CUPS/BrotherH1250", which is indeed the name
of the printer.

There is a great number of lines referring to CUPS, some of which mention
paper size (with uninformative values like "1"). I am very wary of
experimenting with these, and am lost about what to look for.

I know that this problem did not exist until some weeks ago, but I do not
know what brought the change about.

Can someone help?

If you select "File | Page Setup", what paper size is selected in that
dialog?

There is nothing there about paper size. The first page (Format & Options)
is mostly about portrait/landscape. The seond ("Margins & Header/Footer")
is about margins, which are shown as 12.7mm all around, and of course
headers and footers. No paper size.

Apologies -- I thought you were talking about Firefox 3. I just now
noticed the "2.0.0.14" in the subject line. :)

I don't have any ideas, other than suggesting that you maybe try a fresh
profile (via "firefox -ProfileManager") and see if you get the same
printing problem in that new profile.

I use openSuse 10.3 and printing works for me.

After clicking Print, <CTRL><P>, what does it look like in the
properties of the printer? You should be able to change the paper size
there.

You should be able to print to a file if you have some kind of
postscript utility installed, like ghostscript. Check your paper size
for your postscript printer also. Print to a file with a .ps extension
and look at it with Ghostview or gv. If that looks right try printing
it from Ghostview or gv as a test/work around.

What it says is <A4 (210x297mm), just as it should.

Please note the original description: The problem cannot be in the
postscript printer, CUPS, or anywhere else, because all other apps print
properly. It is in Firefox, and nowhere else. If I were looking for a
workaround, I would print web pages from Konqueror or Opera, both of which
work fine.

Yes, apparently that is the way to go. Probably I ought first to disable all
the extensions to see if one of them is screwing something up.

Thank you...

OK, specifically, I use openSuse 10.3 and printing works for me with
"Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080410
SUSE/2.0.0.14-0.1 Firefox/2.0.0.14". I can print to any size paper and
orientation with Firefox/2.0.0.14 from the print dialog within
Firefox. Is Firefox broken? Not here.

Alrighty then, forget the work around idea! But how about a test of
Firefox's ability to print to postscript in an effort to narrow the
scope of the problem. If Firefox can print to a postscript file and
the results are on the correct paper size then we can look somewhere
else to try to figure out what's going on.

I agree, if every other application prints correctly then the problem
*must* be in Firefox, or your Firefox settings, or your Firefox profile.

Did Daniel's suggestion of a new profile solve the problem?
