Why not use a torrent with a whole directory structure instead of a zip

Zips the browser has to download the whole file before the page will
load; however with a torrent files can be downloaded selectively.
With a torrent webserver load is reduced as data can be downloaded
from peers.

Torrents have ridiculously bad latency. For the common case (of web
server/network running within its capacity), a client will be able to
download a complete zip file long before a torrent would complete (or
perhaps even begin).

It might be interesting to experiment with fallback to torrents for
overburdened servers, but that's comparatively rare.
