trapping error messages

Thanks for pdf.js!
At Hypothesis we use pdf.js to enable annotation of PDF files.
We'd like to be able to trap error messages, like "invalid or corrupted pdf
file," and present them differently to our users. Any guidance on how best
to do that would be much appreciated.
