- Abandoned Sites
Ryan mentioned that 7 websites have been retired so far this year with
11 or 12 more up for review. Ryan will set up a review meeting soon.
There was also discussion about affiliate data now that Spreadfirefox
is retired. Ryan said there are plans being worked on but many open
questions are not resolved yet.
- Domain Name Change
David mentioned that air.mozilla.com was just changed to
air.mozilla.org. This is the first domain change for a site since
this process was put on hold before the Firefox 4 launch and we should
be able to drive this on more sites moving forward. More details
about other sites to switch at:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Taskforce/Proposals/Domain_Name_Strategy#Implementation
- Documenting Website Product Owners
Chris More is reviewing all domains Mozilla owns and is trying to
automate data collection where possible (eg, creating a script to find
what domains redirect). This will feed into the WhoWorksOnWhat page
on wiki. Ryan to to set up a meeting later to go into more details
about collecting data.
- Website End of Life Process
Ryan said there's nothing more to add to this, so we opened it up for
approval. There were no objections, so this process is now official.
- Universal Tab
No update on this.
- Web Fonts
John said the plan is to keep Meta for wordmarks, but we may still
create a new font for more general usage.
- Common Licensing
No update on this. There was discussion though to fold the research
part of identifying what licenses sites are using into the Documenting
effort.
- Universal Subtitles
No update on this. Austin mentioned that Universal Subtitles was
integrated into the Web O Wonder project so that could serve as the
case study we wanted to have to determine how this changes the
workflow for localizers.
- Other Proposals
There was a discussion about if it made sense to create guidelines for
responsive design and creating plain English versions of websites.
The general agreement was that these are important but it might be
premature or unneeded to have these go through the task force.
