By default, Mediawiki returns a 404 when a page hasn't been created.
MDC does not though; was this something done on purpose for MDC, or is
it a MindTouch thing?

Any chance of it being changed?

Thanks for a great resource.

We've always had it configured this way, even back when we were using
MediaWiki. It's intentional, because we encourage linkification of
terms (for example, interface names) even if there is not yet
documentation for them, so as to point out to potential contributors
content they could provide.

I thought we used to return a 404 with the "create this page" content in it?

Hm. That's possible. I'm not sure how much it matters one way or the
other. I personally like the way it works now. Is this a big deal for
some reason? I'm open to debate on this if anyone has some passion
about it. :)

IIRC MediaWiki does it so that tools like search engines and mirrors
don't generate entries for those "fake" pages. We don't really want a
page we don't have to be attracting google juice for the topic, I
think.

That's an excellent point and one I'd have realized myself if I
weren't still fighting this flu bug. I'll look into this.
