Lightning & Sunbird 0.5 RC2 have landed!!

Hi everyone!
As some of you have already found out by watching the mozilla.org ftp
server, Lightning 0.5 RC2 and Sunbird 0.5 RC2 have been released.
We have the Sunbird RC's for all our supported locales as well as the
Lightning RC's for all our supported locales, but unfortunately Lightning
0.5 RC2 is not yet available for the Mac. We will offer a universal Mac
build of Lightning as soon as possible.
Here's where to get your hands on the 2nd release candidate:

This is correct. Once the final 0.5 is released it will be available
from the official download site too. Until then the download site
lists the current 0.3.1 release.

have been proposed. Any chance to get them accepted if I file a bug?

I noticed a problem with the toolbar buttons of lightning 0.5RC2
(thunderbird 2.0.0.4, german locale). The writing under the buttons is
misaligned (a bit to high) compared to the standard buttons; probably
the icons are a bit to small.

Ricardo, the plan is to release in the next few days. Therefore if the
issues that were brought up by your community are not total dealbreakers,
then I would recommend, that you just fix them on the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH
and the trunk (both should stay in sync).
Would that be ok for you?

That's OK, they are tiny, polishment details. BTW, as of today I don't
have trunk up to date (I planned to sync it just after
Sunbird/Lightning 0.5 release). Is that a problem for Calendar Team?

No its is not a problem. But after you sync the trunk with the 1.8
branch, you should really take a look at cross-commit
<http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Using_cross_commit>, which will
make it very easy for you, to keep branch and trunk in sync.

I've heard of cross-commit, but I understand that's only trusworthy if
both trunk and the branch(s) have the exact same contents. How long
can we assume that Calendar source will be the same in trunk and the
branch? Up to some time before 1.0, maybe?

Trunk and 1.8 branch will stay in sync for calendar-code as long as
Thunderbird 2 is the stable Thunderbird release. Once Thunderbird 3 is
out, we will probably move to the 1.9 branch that is currently the trunk.
This goes for code as well as for strings. There are some small
exceptions to this rule on the code side, but not on the string side as
far as I know.

Simplified Chinese language.
Would you please give us some sugguestions on how to get it into next
release or just release the language pack?

yes it is too late for the 0.5 release, but you can and should of course
commit your localization update to the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH and the trunk.
We're currently planning to release our next release (0.7) in October. It
would be great if you could become part of the Lightning/Sunbird crowd.

Apropos language packs, could the l10n_download.html page for Sunbird also
be made to point to the langpacks subdirectory on the release server, because
as it is now, finding the langpacks is pretty difficult (or did I just not
notice the correct link?).
