Hello localizers!

Thank you all for your great work with Firefox 31 and 32. Here's an
outline of what is currently in Aurora this cycle (33) and what we
accomplished together last cycle:

This cycle (Fx33) -- 22 July - 1 September

Key dates:
- Beta sign offs must be completed before 25 August.
- Aurora sign offs must be completed before 1 September.
- Firefox 30 releases 2 September.

Features:
- Approximately 204 new string changes were made to Aurora desktop,
34 for Aurora mobile exclusively (unshared).
- 11% of the desktop strings changes are strings or files that need
to be removed from your repos. 39% of all string changes are in
devtools. The rest cover changes in key name warning messages, the
Context Menu toolbar, and others. (see
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Features/Release_Tracking#Likely_in_Firefox_33
). 6% are about getusermedia.
- 30% of the mobile string changes are for privacy settings
(private browsing, clearing private data, etc.) The rest include Firefox
Account and home page preferences (see
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Roadmap#Firefox_33_.28Aurora.29 ).

Notes:
Please remember that sign offs are a critical piece to the cycle and
mean that you approve and can vouch for the work you're submitting for
shipment.

Because nearly 50% of all 89 locales have not regularly signed off, and
thus not shipping up-to-date localizations, I will begin contacting
those teams this cycle to evaluate whether they can come up-to-date in a
short amount of time, or if they need to be removed from the public
Firefox release page ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ ).

Last cycle -- 10 June - 21 July

Noteworthy accomplishments:
- 68% of all locales shipped Firefox 31 on desktop updates on time.
Congratulations to everyone who signed off and shipped this last cycle!
This is an 1% decrease in locale coverage between Firefox 30 and Firefox
31!
- 86% of all locales shipped Fennec 31 on time. Congratulations to
everyone who signed off and shipped this last cycle! This is an 2%
decrease in locale coverage between Firefox 30 and Firefox 31!
- The Assamese, Bengali (India), Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada,
Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telegu teams
launched their first localizations of Fennec! These 12 Indic locales
represent the largest number of new locales that have been shipped in a
single Fennec release. Please contact the team to congratulate them on
this massive accomplishment, and feel free to tweet all about!
- The new language switching feature in Fennec allows us to ship
more locales on Fennec than ever before. If your locale wants to ship a
Fennec localization, please contact me.

Thank you to everyone for all of your dedication and hard work this last
sprint. As always, if you note anything missing in these reports, please
let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

And what's with Upper Sorbian Firefox 31? It is not in download list!
Please don't say there won't be an Upper Sorbian release for Firefox 31.

Michael

Hi Michael,

It's still Firefox 30 on the page, but I can see an Upper Sorbian
Firefox 31 build on the FTP
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/31.0/linux-x86_64/hsb/
So, it should be displayed on the page once Firefox 31 is released.

My sincerest apologies, Upper Sorbian (hsb) has also been launched on
Firefox desktop with the Firefox 31 release! Please contact the team
(Michael Wolf) to congratulate him on this massive accomplishment, and
feel free to tweet all about! I will update the blog post to also
include this.

Hi Theo,

thank you. Yes, I know, I've tested the win32 version from the FTP
today. I am reassured that this was still Firefox 30 on the official
download page.

Unfortunately, there is still bug 1037972:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1037972

In the win32 build I downloaded from the FTP site, this bug still
exists. I fear this bug is in all builds, independent of OS and
architecture. Could you check this for the linux x86_64 build and
perhaps for Mac builds as well? I can test for win 32 and linux x86 only.

I've just downloaded the Windows build from
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and unfortunately, the bug
exists. It's very pity that such a bug exists in the first **official**
Upper Sorbian version.

That bug doesn't depend on the build, or "hsb" alone. If you invent a
locale code that is not supported, the application crashes badly instead
of falling back to en-US (or something else).

Bug needs to be resolved on fx-account server side.

Hello Francesco,

thank you for your reply. But what can be done now and who will it do?
"hsb" is not an **invented** locale code - it exists. The project
Firefox Accounts has been translated on Verbatim and I always committed
the translations. What will happen now regarding to Firefox 31? Is it
possible to set at least a feedback locale instead? "de" or "en-US"?
Does this bug remain until the Fx 32 release?

I'm perfectly aware that hsb is not an invented locale, what I meant is:
it's not an issue with hsb (like locale is supported but files contain
errors or are missing), if you invent a locale xyz-testing and put it in
intl.accept_languages, website will crash.

As I said: it's a bug, and it needs to be fixed. It's also unrelated to
the release process or the build: if it's fixed tomorrow, it doesn't
need to wait 6 weeks for Firefox 32 to be released, it just needs to
wait for the server to be updated.

And there's nothing else I can do, beside trying to poke people.

Francesco

Hi Michael,

I don't believe there was an intent of claiming hsb as a non-legitimate
locale, but to point out that adding a new locale code that is
previously unsupported will cause a crash. The issue is a purely
technical issue and will need to be resolved by the developers in that
bug. As flod has mentioned, hsb is not alone here. The fix won't arrive
in fx31, but depending on the priority the engineering team assigns it,
the fix could arrive as early as Fx32.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thank you, from your lips to God's ears.

And I thank you for that and to all for all the work you did to enable
the first official Upper Sorbian Firefox, to say nothing of my other
projects still in progress.

Please excuse me that I get on your nerves - but for me the today's
release is an extraordinary event: The Upper Sorbian Firefox is
**official** now! An official Firefox version in such a small language
like Upper Sorbian! And, of course, I want that everything will work
very well. May be I am worked up to much.

Once more, thank you very much to all!

Hi Jeff,

I hope the bug will be fixed earlier than Fx32 as Francesco indicated in
the mail before yours. It is a bug that affects the functionality to a
larger extent than any wrong accesskey or commandkey.

But, it doesn't help, I must wait.

Hi Jeff,

it comes late but it comes: Thank you for your congratulations and for
your help and the help of all others. Without you all I had not managed it.

Michael
