Hello Localizers,
If your locale is not listed below, you can ignore this email. Or you can
read and decide if your community want to participate in this project.
Languages: es-ES, fr, hi-IN, it, id, pt-BR, ro
I enabled the project earlier on Pontoon. Many of you have already started
working on it. I was hoping that an email from the Participation would
come out at the same time when the project was enabled. It has not. I am
disabling it for the time being until everything is ready.
The Participation team will send out an email regarding this new project,
how it came about and its intent. Before you receive the email, I would
like to inform you:
- The project setup is unlike most projects in Pontoon. The format
is in xliff format. Some of the strings are pre-populated, especially
content within { .... } brackets. Some of these should or shouldn't be
localized.
- There is a READMe.md file that describes in more details:
https://github.com/mozilla/activate.mozilla.community/blob/gh-pages/README.md.
I hope the readme provides enough guidelines on how to localize the
site. It is a working document. Your input is very important at this
first phase of project rollout.
- The process will be different in terms of staging localized
content, pushing the content to production, as well as adding new strings,
making updates/corrections to the existing live pages. This will be
addressed by Konstantina and Ruben.
For those communities who want to be added to the project, you can send a
request through Pontoon. An issue will be created in github. After that,
the files will be prepared before Pontoon can enable it.
The current process is like this:
- Request on Pontoon to start the project
- An issue will be created in *github* to kick things off.
- The locale will be evaluated by the program manager, along with
members of that community.
- If it gets the green light, we will move the strings into Pontoon and
notify the localization team
- At regular intervals, we will monitor Pontoon and once a particular
locale is finished, we will merge back into github and turn on the locale
on the site. L10n community can file an issue on *Github* to make us
aware of the final strings as well, so we can add the new locale within a
few days.
- Once the product goes live, updates and corrections won’t happen
automatically through Pontoon.
- For changes, we will merge back into the site at regular intervals.
Thank you and have a good weekend!
