Hello localizers!
Thank you all for your great work with Firefox 36 and 37. Here's an
outline of what is currently in Aurora this cycle (38) and what we
accomplished together last cycle:
This cycle (Fx38) -- 23 Feb - 30 March
Key dates:
- March 16-28 is ideal for l10n work on Aurora this cycle.
- Beta (37) sign-offs for new locales must be complete by 16 Mar.
- Beta (37) sign offs must be completed before 23 Mar.
- Aurora (38) sign offs must be completed before 30 Mar.
- Firefox 37 releases 31 Mar.
Remember that the schedule for the next few cycles is going to be odd.
Here are the basics:
- March 30 - May 11 -- Firefox 38 will spend six weeks in Beta. Pootle
will have a Beta project enabled for additional l10n testing and editing.
- April 6th - May 12th -- April 6th will be string freeze for all
spring release marketing materials (will need some more days to have
material available for translation).
- May 12 -- Fx38 will go to release.
- May 11 - June 29 -- This cycle will be 7 weeks in order to catch up to
the regular schedule after cutting the Fx38 in Aurora cycle short by one
week.
Features:
- Unfortunately, because we have not arrived at a place of
stability yet on Aurora, I can't provide specific numbers about string
changes on Firefox or Fennec. The strings that have landed after merge
day so far have included plurals and been slightly complex. Testing your
localizations and making changes in Beta will be critical for Firefox 38.
- The primary feature for the spring release will be an enhanced
sync and reading list feature to facilitate a user's ability to sync
their Firefox usage across multiple platforms (see
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127445 and
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1138738 for more info about
the Reading List feature in both Firefox and Fennec).
- In addition to Firefox and Fennec, Firefox for iOS will launch
it's first version with the spring release. If you have not yet opted in
to localize it, please file a bug and CC me and flod.
Notes:
Please remember that sign offs are a critical piece to the cycle and
mean that you approve and can vouch for the work you're submitting for
shipment.
Last cycle -- 13 Jan. - 24 Feb.
Noteworthy events:
- 51% of all locales shipped Firefox 36 on desktop updates on time.
Congratulations to everyone who signed off and shipped this last cycle!
Sadly, this is an 11% decrease in locale coverage between Firefox 35 and
Firefox 36.
- 62% of all locales shipped Fennec 36 on time. Congratulations to
everyone who signed off and shipped this last cycle! Sadly, this is a
14% decrease in locale coverage between Fennec 35 and Fennec 36!
- The Xhosa (xh) and Galician (gl) teams launched their first
localizations of Fennec with Fennec 36. Please reach out to them with
your congratulations!
- The Uzbek (uz) team launched their first localizations of Firefox
desktop with Firefox 36. Please reach out to them with your
congratulations!
Thank you to everyone for all of your dedication and hard work this last
sprint. As always, if you note anything missing in these reports, please
let me know.
Thanks,
Jeff
