Hey all,

I know there was a previous discussion about this as part of a bigger
and messier proposal[1], but I'd like to propose the creation of a
"Localization" classification on Bugzilla–clean and simple.

For right now, all it would contain would be the two products we've
discussed as resulting from splitting "Mozilla Localizations", which
currently lives in the "Client Software" classification, as well as the
L20n product, which currently lives in the "Other" classification.

This would be a baby step towards any more ambitious plans that may
arise in the future.

Does anyone have any objections or other thoughts about the matter?

Thanks,
Gordon

If I look at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?full=1, I think
it's good that the localization product is among the Client Software
category.

Well, TBH, I was actively looking for that page before and I didn't know
where to find it, so I'm not sure how much of an argument that is. (The
Browse [describecomponents.cgi] page doesn't currently separate by
classification.)

But nevertheless, localizations to me are not independent "End User
Products developed by mozilla.org contributors" as much as they are
transformations of each of the respective products to fit a particular
audience. It seems logical to me that they would get their own
classification as a separate layer of the process. (It also seems
strange to me to have "Mozilla Localizations" and "L20n" in different
classifications.)

Also, you were for having a separate classification back when it
involved more disruptive changes than I've proposed so far. Why have you
changed your mind?

Regards,
Gordon

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ -> File a bug -> Other Products

Firefox in German is an end user product developed by mozilla.org
contributors. It really is ;-) The process layering doesn't matter to
people filing bugs on something being broken in the German Firefox.

I don't see a reason why l20n and "Mozilla Localizations" should share a
classification.

I changed my mind because the classification back then was a way to get
a permit to add 100 products. And I don't expect to be doing that these
days.
