The Thunderbird mail start page is woefully out of date. It links to features that were new
in Thunderbird 1.0 and 1.5. Nothing about all the new features available to users in Thunderbird 2.

We'd like to replace the existing Feature items in the start page with a new list of features. It'd be really nice to highlight the new Thunderbird 2 features in the start page. But fixing this would require us to break the string freeze and is something we are reluctant to do without further conversation with all the localizers.

For more details see:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368744

Our proposed l10n string freeze / code complete date is February 27th, 26 days away. If we all agree to change the start page, we'd be changing about 5 strings and 5 urls in start.dtd. I've posted an example patch in the bug so we can all see what would be changing.

What do you all think of breaking the string freeze to update the start page?

Thanks,

-Team Thunderbird

I do agree. This is worth breaking the rule.

That sounds reasonable to me.

I think it's ok. We can do it.

I really hope you are not waiting for all localizers to give you OK.
:-) Anyway, I agree. Looking into the bug I think that fixing the
strings in the product will be fairly easy, and translating the
webpages could be done without having to hurry, if I get it right.

Ok, thanks for the feedback everyone! Let's go for it. I'll get the en-US strings and the urls finalized in the next 24 hours so we can get the ball rolling on this for the translations.

Thanks everyone!
