Hello folks,

Google Reader was removed as a default feeds handler for en-US in bug
851010 <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=851010>. Some
locales already removed it from their own repository, but the majority
still have Google Reader as their default feed handler[1].

Locales should be able to remove the feed handler from
region.properties, but they must provide at least one alternative. en-US
currently uses My Yahoo! as the only protocol handler for feeds. Other
possible alternatives include Bloglines and Netvibes.

browser.contentHandlers.types.0.title=My Yahoo!
browser.contentHandlers.types.0.uri=http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=%s

As suggested in bug 851010 comment 7[2]
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=851010#c7>, we created a
tracking bug[3] that could be used as a reference for the commit message
and later, if necessary, used as a real tracking bug if we need to work
on some repositories.

So, if you feel comfortable fixing this yourself, please go ahead and do
so. Once you're done, just comment in the tracking bug[3]. If not, then
file a bug or otherwise let us aware that you want this fixed for you,
and we'll get onto business.

Some more details.

*Commit message*
When committing, please use a meaningful commit message (e.g. "Bug
906688 - Remove Google Reader from region.properties as feed handler"),
better if you include only that specific change in that commit.

*Numbering of handlers*
When you remove Google Reader, ensure that 1) You have at least one feed
handler 2) The numbering is correct (if Google Reader was #2 and you
have a third handler, you need to update that too).

*Where can I land?*
You can land this change on l10n-central (if you work there),
mozilla-aurora and mozilla-beta. If you don't want to touch mozilla-beta
is fine, just land it on mozilla-aurora and let it ride the usual
release train.

Again, if you have doubts just ask here on dev-l10n or IRC (#l10n).

Francesco

Hi,
this morning I closed bug 906688. I found out 3 more locales still
shipping Google Reader (et on mobile, ko and zh-CN on desktop), changes
landed on l10n-central and mozilla-aurora.

This means that both l10n-central and mozilla-aurora are now Google
Reader free for Firefox desktop and mobile.

Please make sure you don't overwrite this kind of changes.

Francesco
