The Thunderbird drivers would like to apologise for the large amount of
late-l10n bugs following the 3.1 beta 2 and 3.1 string freeze. We'll be
reviewing our processes during the beta 2 post-mortem, so that we can
learn from the experience and try and improve next time round.
As a result of the extra landings, we have decided to extend the opt-in
deadline for 3.1 beta 2 to *Tuesday 27th at 23:59 PDT* [1] to give you a
bit more time to complete.
We'll be finalising a opt-in deadline for 3.1 final as soon as we can.
At the moment, expect it in roughly 3-4 weeks. We are not expecting to
be landing any more string changes at this time.
Note: I'm sending this on behalf of Simon as he appears to be AFK for
the weekend and I wanted to communicate the deadline extension to you as
soon as possible.
Mark.
Honestly I think that +24 hours is not enough for many l10n teams to
localize those strings and doing an appropriate QA.

Yes, this is simply hilarious.

this is too fast indeed!
We realise that is a large amount of strings. However, given that 75 of
those strings were landed within 1.5 days of the original freeze, we
weren't expecting a significant issue with the remaining 25, which is
why a 24 hour extension seemed reasonable...

The issue the Thunderbird drivers have is that if we delay builds by
more than about a day, we will potentially end up delaying beta 2 by two
weeks or more, hence our reluctance. I will discuss with drivers later
today about alternative options to see if we can come up with an
alternative option, although this can't be guaranteed at the moment.

I can understand, but even if from our team we could make it enter in
the end, many groups are not likely to be able to sign in before that
date.
Do we have any estimation about how many betas we expect before RCs?
Thanks!
Simon alluded to this in his original post about the 3.1 beta 2 string
freeze, this is also the string freeze for the Final release.
We are not planning any more betas before RCs. The completion date for
final will be communicated soon, but that could be in about 3-4 weeks.
Mark.
