Mobile Localizer Friends:

Mobile Firefox 4 beta 2 is presently string frozen and will be code
frozen on Tuesday, October 19. Many locales are already at 0 strings or
close to, so please update your strings before this Tuesday if
possible. Axel has opened the sign-off application to accept your signoff.

https://l10n-stage-sj.mozilla.org/shipping/dashboard?av=fennec4.0

Extra information for you:

* L10n-merge is working, but we'd like to get your repos close as we
approach the final release.
* The developer team is still working on a very long list of
blockers for this release. As of yesterday, the count was 52,
including some bugs that might have an l10n effect. (I know that
breaks the concept of "freeze", so I am hoping that you can pick
up those slight changes when they hit, and if not, l10n-merge will.)
* The developer team hopes to close all blockers by Tuesday.
* We are still working on some outstanding technical bugs related to
localizing java files [1] and Android l10n builds. Aki from
RelEng has updated Axel that it is on his short list.

Axel and I are free to answer questions.

Best,

Seth

I'm trying to test the win32 desktop build[1] (the only one I can test,
since Mac builds are not localized) but the only thing I see is a XUL
error instead of the main window

Did anyone try these desktop builds lately? I tried it and fr with the
same result.

Odd, I can't figure out what'd be happening ad-hoc.

Also, the builds to try are in
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-central-win32-l10n/,
you've got the links to the 1.1 builds up there. Are those any better?

My mistake (bad copy&paste on different computers), I was actually
testing builds from latest-mozilla-central-win32-l10n (4.02pre). Builds
from latest-mozilla-1.9.2 work fine.

Can we ping someone from Mobile to check this before the next release? I
tried the build from 10/19 but it's the same, so I have to do a "blind"
sign-off for b2.

Thanks Alexander. So changing the chrome.manifest let you test the
build? I'll try it as soon as I get my hands on a Windows machine.

Yes. I've changed this line in chrome.manifest and managed to start Fennec.
I don't think that it's specific for Windows.

There's sadly a half-hand-full of issues surfacing here. Some bugs have
patches, others have a plan.

What I'm wondering, how could we not recognize that l10n builds just
didn't work at all for a while? Are we down to zero users on l10n
nightlies there? Is there any way we could get some smoketesting of this?

Hi Axel Hecht
Well, first of all, it's hard to understand what should be tested. There is a lot of *-l10n directories in http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/ with a lot files in them. For example,
I have no idea what difference between latest-mozilla-central-maemo5-qt-l10n/ and latest-mozilla-central-maemo5-gtk-l10n/ and which file should be used for testing on Maemo. Perhaps mobile team should
invest in mobile version of http://nightly.mozilla.org/.
Second reason is that people like to use nightly builds everyday and complain about them. Desktop Fennec builds is not intended for everyday use, it's for testing only, so its user base is quite
limited. I'd like to dogfood multilocale Android build (as I acquired recently HTC Desire), but I don't see any latest-mozilla-central-android-r7-l10n/ directory.
I guess that Maemo l10n nightly user base is too small.
