I do interested to contribute coding, translating and designing

My mother language is Cantonese, I learn Mandarin in Primary School, English and Malay in High School.

I'm a Freelance Programmer, for the past five years I study VB6, VB.NET, VC++ and HTML. I'm working at a Computer Store in Repair & Services Department at Kuala Lumpur. I own these website (www.ran-yong.com, www.smkps.com, www.ran-planet.net) to help each other on pc problems. I also good in Photoshop.

I think there are translation teams for all those except for Cantonese
and personally I would love to see a Cantonese Firefox. If you're
interested in doing that, I could set that up for you over on the

That's a different locale/language though, that's zh-HK whereas
Cantonese proper would be yue or zh-yue or something. I just had a look
at their langpack and it is indeed Standard Chinese (aka Mandarin) but
for the Hong Kong locale.

I know we can quibble about the details until the cows come home but if
it was Cantonese, this sentence should start with 我哋, not 我們. I have
browsed around in the pack and it all looks like Standard Chinese,
perhaps with a Hong Kong flavour but certainly nothing a linguist would
call Cantonese/Yue.

Michael,

Indeed, It's quite complicated for Chinese language/writing systems, but I
don't think there's a simply zh-yue can satisfy all needs of
Cantonese-speaking users in different countries.

As Qiangqiang indicates that he speaks Cantonese and he knows both
Traditional and Simplified Chinese, I guess the zh-HK's langpack would be
an option for him.

It would be even better if he'd like to make a zh-MY/SG or zh-any locale,
but I'm just giving more options for him to choose.

(And of course, we're happy if he would like to contribute to zh-TW.) :)

Why not, it works on Wikipedia (which also has Gan, Hakka, Wu and Min)?
At least zh-yue would be a starting point. It's a bit like saying that
we can't do Basque because it's split between France and Spain but yet
there it is in all its agglutinating glory.

What I mean is that I don't think simply zh-yue would be enough as there're
quite some differences in history and custom for different spoken regions,
and no one could "represent" others. Sadly but true, political problems, a
example is that Wu Chinese is one of my mother tongue but I can hardly read
zh-wuu Wikipedia (even I read Simplified Chinese).

The current easy zh-CN and zh-TW categorization is a workaround for the
larger user groups in my opinion, we (MozTW) do want to promote Mozilla's
mission but we don't want to bring local-specific things to HK or Trad
Chinese users in other regions. I'm happy to see zh-yue-hk, or even
zh-nan-tw/cn locales happen in Mozilla like Wikipedia someday, when
there're much contributors/users.

I'm not familiar with the situation in Basque, they can probably be another
example, though.

The Cantonese of Hong Kong / Guangzhou serves as a lingua franca across
Yue-speakers, and its use in writing is relatively common, so I think a
single localization would be possible.

One important thing would be to name the language used accurately (e.g.
廣東話口語 / Colloquial Cantonese), as this could avoid a lot of heated
arguments.

Don't worry, Malaysian & Singaporean learn Proper Chinese (Mandarin) at school, so Malaysia & Singapore just use zh-CN.
