I just landed what will probably be the last major L10n change for
SeaMonkey 2.1 Beta 1 (string freeze is "tomorrow" at 23:59 PDT but I'm
not aware of any larger things still to land before that), and that
major change has impacts on more than just plain strings.
As of now, SeaMonkey has switched to the same "OpenSearch" system as
Firefox, so the previous .src/.png format for search plugins has been
de-supported for those we provide by default and we're only supporting
.xml search plugins in the defaults and locales from now on in the
SeaMonkey 2.1 series and above. (The old "Sherlock" format still works
when installed by users into their profile but we won't ship such
plugins in the application.)
For you as a localizer, this means that you need to at least adapt your
list.txt to match the en-US one, as we also changed the collection of
plugins we're shipping. If you have any .src/.png files in
suite/searchplugins, you'll need to remove them.
If there's no good reason for providing your own search plugins, please
don't add any for now, we'll fetch any that are in list.txt but not
existing in your locale from en-US instead. We also don't want any
locale to ship more than 5 search plugins for the moment.
Note that compared to Firefox, we don't have eBay or amazon in the
default list right now, and we have subtle changes in the Google and
possibly Yahoo ones to not use any tags that are for special Firefox
contracts, so be careful when you may want to port any search plugins
from Firefox, as we are not allowed to use such tags.
For this beta, it's probably best to leave any plugins except possibly
Wkipedia at their defaults, we'll take a deeper look into what we
provide between Beta 1 and 2, and should have useful rules then for final.
That said, I will open the dashboard for sign-offs for 2.1 Beta 1 once
the string freeze has passed, and will only accept ones where tinderbox
builds are green and search plugins confine with the rules I laid out here.
I hope this is easy enough for you to follow, and I hope we'll have a
good number of locales that will join us for the first beta of this series!
